Rahala & Tamriel - The Beginning

Once upon a time, before the universe even existed, there were twelve gods and goddesses. They had formed from the spaces between the dusts of time and they were very powerful. Of the twelve there were four that destroyed, four that created, and four that did both. They all lived in harmony, making and destroying things in turn.

After a long time one of the creator goddesses made the first living things, two female children. She did not want them to be destroyed and she hid them in the curve of outer space. This goddess's name was Kiana, and she was younger than the others so she did not know why the twins had to be destroyed.

The two children had been formed by Kiana's dreams and hopes so she named them Rahala, meaning dreams, and Tamriel, meaning hopes. They were very intelligent, and talked and played with Kiana often. They did not know why they had been made, but they didn't question Kiana's will.

Kiana was always careful not to tell any of the gods or goddesses about the twins, but a secret can't be kept forever. Somehow Kali, one of the both creative and destructive goddesses, found them and brought them to the others. She accused Kiana of deceiving them and disrupting the balance of things by hiding the children from the rest of the gods and goddesses. Before the others Kiana pleaded for Rahala and Tamriel's life. She asked that they be allowed to live and grow.

After much debating all but three of the gods and goddesses agreed to let the children live, on one condition. They would have to be turned into planets and support life themselves. Then the gods would create other planets and Rahala and Tamriel would have to serve them by holding their dreams and hopes until they could come true on that planet.

The other three gods were not pleased. They did not want the children to live and they felt that if there was a place where dreams could come true, soon that place would become more powerful than themselves. The first one, Gede, decided that if life was there, so must death be there also. He brought mortality to all things other than the gods, and became the keeper of death.

The second goddess, Yelru, was very angry. She determined that she would be the ruler of all the broken dreams, the ones that hurt others, and the ones that had been shattered. She would take these and release them on all the planets, to stop the pleasant dreams from coming true. They would be known as the Ecthroi and their very name would strike fear into the hearts of the brave.

The third, Siwit, was the most cunning of all. He announced that the creatures of Rahala and Tamriel could not mate with one of the same species. He knew that this way they would soon become disfigured and weak. Then if all of the creatures could not survive the two planets must die.

In return, Tamriel spoke up. She would watch each and every birth and choose which attributes the being would have. She would stop them from being too weak or helpless. Her creatures may look strange, but they would be able to live like any other.

When Siwit heard her speak he was enraged. He reached toward Tamriel and slashed at her. A huge gash opened across her face and she went tumbling through space. As she spun, she became more like a ball. Her arms and legs melted into each other, her skin turned to ice, and her hair into dirt. The blood from the cut gathered to form three moons. When she was done she was fully a planet, slowly spinning in the emptiness of space. The planet had a large valley in it, like someone had torn open the earth there. Rahala darted toward her sister and the same thing happened. She was transformed into a planet and one of her eyes split to form three moons. Soon there were two planets, slowly spinning around each other, looking exactly the same except for the jagged valley that ran down the side of Tamriel.

Kiana looked at her children and started to cry because they looked so lifeless. Her tears formed a sun to warm the planets. As the ice melted and plants and trees began to grow and cover the bare earth, she cheered up. She changed herself into a spiraling galaxy so she could watch over and protect them. The rest of the gods turned away and started to create their own worlds and creatures. As they evolved enough to have hopes and dreams, animals, spirits and other beings started to appear on Rahala and Tamriel. Then began the other stories, the ones about the first humanlike being, the first dragon and unicorn, the first (and only) Rahalan War, the Guardians who would one day stop the Ecthroi, and many, many others.
