Before they entered, Gwenn looked at Kay, "Ready, breda?" A small grin came in reply.

Gwenn and Kay entered the ballroom quietly. No one but the guard at the door and a few people nearby appeared to notice their entrance. Gwenn escorted Kay over to the refreshments table and got two glasses of shallan, handing one to Kay. "We should probably try to find the Domna Javanne at some point and congratulate her--the ball is being held in her honor as the new heir to the Elhalyn Domain. But if you don't want to do so, you do not have to come with me," he added, looking at Kay with concern.

Just then, there was a commotion at the entrance. Gwenn, even though he knew Dolo and Melissa were waiting to make an entrance and had been keeping an eye out, was still taken by surprise. It seemed that every head turned at the same time his did.

Kay was so busy looking around that Gwenn's words went in one ear and out the other. Off to the side, where she and Gwenn had slipped just moments before, she watched with great delight as Dolo and Melissa entered the Yellow Ballroom. Since all eyes were on the two noblewomen, this gave her the opportunity to look around at the room itself and all the people assembled in it.

There was one thing in particular that puzzled her, but she would need a closer look at one of them in order to even try to figure it out. Turning to Gwenn, she asked softly (not realizing that he'd told the answer already) "What now, bredu ? Are we expected to go introduce ourselves to the host, and to the guest of honor ?". Then she blushed a bright red, as it suddenly occurred to her that Gwenn had just TOLD her the answer a minute ago, just before the big entrance.

Gwenn grinned. He had seen that Kay wasn't really paying attention to him; that her attention had been commanded by the grandeur of the ballroom. "We should--or at least I should--congratulate Domna Alar-Lanart on being named heir to the Elhalyn Domains. Greeting Dom Elhalyn would also be a good idea...if I can figure out who they are."

"Aye", Kay answered thoughtfully, "twould be the proper thing to be doing. Else we might be thought unmannerly". She recalled the dress that Hannah had been working on, that lovely blue that she had said was being made for Domna Alar-Lanart. After describing it to Gwenn, she inquired "Do we just walk right up to her ? Or should we ask Dolo or Melissa to introduce us ?"

Gwenn began looking for Dolo and Melissa. "Aye, a wonderful suggestion. 'Twould be better to get an introduction than to walk up to a strange lady and begin talking," Gwenn replied, then blushed as he realized that Kay and he met in just such a manner. He drew breath for an apology when Kay spoke....

"There's Melissa over there" she told him, recognizing the back of Melissa's dress and pointing pointing off to one side. Melissa was VERY WARMLY welcoming a tall, elegant-looking young man who was sleekly-muscled like a greyhound, and the pair of them soon moved off towards a group of people. Relatives perhaps ? Or friends ? "Perhaps it would be better if we didn't bother them right now", she softly suggested, "but there's Dolo over there...".

"Aye. Dolo it is, then." That decided, Gwenn began to move across the floor toward Dolo, hoping to stay close enough that he could get her to introduce them to Javanne when Dolo greeted her.

"If we watch Dolo, we might be able to figure out who our host and the guest of honor are...if she doesn't greet kinsmen first...." Gwenn suggested. He looked back to Kay and smiled, "It would be best if we were close enough to hear what she was saying. We wouldn't have to be right beside them, of course." Gwenn was right, again. Still feeling unsure of herself, Kay followed him across the room, wondering who would notice them first.
