Kay's worries about Anwyn churned round and round. Then an associated thought crossed her mind. Trying to keep the girl AWAY from all those dangerous sorcerer-folk clearly wasn't going to keep working for long. Teenagers being (by nature) often as contrary as cats, Anwyn would likely eventually seek one of them out -- no matter how hard Kay tried to prevent it.

And it still bothered her that she didn't know SPECIFICALLY what's Anwyn's "special talent' was. All she knew for certain, was that it WASN'T the ability to talk to animals. What if it was something dangerous ? If Anwyn got hurt, it would be Kay who would have to explain to the McCarrons how vadly she'd failed at being the guardian of a teenager.

So perhaps, though even the IDEA of it made her uncomfortable, it might be safest to choose the lesser of two evils, and make another try at learning from someone more experienced.

But who to ask ?

With a sigh of frustration, Kay started contemplating her short-and-unsatisfying list of options:

Perhaps Melissa ? Her advice was sensible, and she was the easiest person to talk to. But she looked so fragile that Kay didn't want to risk hurting her if things got out of control.

Perhaps Dolo ? But she had a business to run, and travelled alot. And anyways, as nice as she had been on the night of the Ball last year (possibly more for Gwen and Melissa's sake than anything else), Kay didn't feel that she knew her well enough to ask for help.

Perhaps Danette ? But after her skittish behaviour the last time that Dani had vsited her, Kay wasn't even entirely certain that Dani would still be willing to talk to her again anytime soon. Or at least, not without treating her as if she was as foolish as a mudrabbit (the way that Katie Ridenow had done in Leaves when Amadaine's wing had gotten damaged). And anyways, the hugely-intense degree of POWER that had radiated off her mate Connor, STILL made Kay feel nervous, even though she hadn't gotten ANY feeling of potentially-hostile intentions from him.

The only OTHER possibilities were either people who likely didn't know much more than SHE did, people who probably wouldn't answer her questions (most of whom might even report her to the nearest Tower for having asked), or people who simply scared her too much by being what they were.

It was a difficult decision, and Kay spent alot of time weighing the alternatives before deciding. Then, cussing softly under her breath and wondering whether she was about to make a very big mistake, she pulled out a pen and a piece of paper and wrote:

Danette,

I am truly sorry about what happenned when you and your mate came for dinner so many weeks ago. It was NOT my intention to in any way suggest that either of you might knowingly endanger either Anwyn or myself. Perhaps Anwyn is right about me being overly-protective of her, and overly-cautious in general.

As much as it makes me uncomfortable to admit it, I really DO need your help.

The only other person that I would dare to ask, would be Melissa Ridenow. But although she understands how difficult it can be for a Terran to adjust to all this magic that so many of you Comyn seem take for granted, she lacks the viewpoint of seeing our religious faith from the inside.

Hopefully you can forgive me for what must have seemed to be terrible rudeness. Could we try again ?

After sealing and addressing the letter, she added it to her department's regular "Outgoing Local Mail" bag, then picked up the bag and headed over to the gate. Sending it off this way should call alot less attention to it when she dispersed the mail (and a bunch of small coins) to the the local messengers-for-hire kids who often hung around near the gate that led into the more public part of the Terran Zone.

[OOC: To see what Anwyn's talent is, go back to my home page and click the link to Anwyn's updated profile]

[OOC: Yes, I KNOW that Dani is currntly still just starting to recover from being in a coma from the "Blooded Snow" storyline. But KAY wouldn't know that]
