"It's SO totally NOT fair", Anwyn grumbled to herself, pushing aside her schoolwork temporarily and sighing. She was feeling rather irritable and very much sorry for herself. NOTHING fun had happenned lately --- same old boring work every day.

"On ONE hand, she encouraged me to be more adventurous and daring and outgoing", she complained, "And then later she totally freaks out on me, treats me like a small child by demanding that I stay away from some of the most interesting people that I've EVER met, and damn well turns herself into a hermit".

And it certainly wasn't for lack of effort on ANWYN'S part that nothing had changed lately. No matter how much she tried to tempt Kay into leaving the Base, NOTHING was working -- not even the lure of new books or fresh pastried from the Sweet Shop.

As it was, the ONLY time Kay even went outside lately, was to accompany Amadaine outdoors long enough for a short walk through the spaceport each day. And THAT was only after the small hawk had thrown numerous temper tantrums that apparently had included fouling everywhere EXCEPT the litter box.

Wee birds NEEDED to catch their OWN fresh meat, and there were plenty of small scavengers within the spaceport -- mostly birds and rodents seeking crumbs of dropped food or leftovers discarded in trash-cans.

Idly Anwyn wondered to herself if it'd be any use if SHE started throwing temper-tantrums too. Or if she disobeyed Kay's demand that "DON'T go out after dark! And stay away from ALL those sorcerer-folks before we both end up damned or dead!", and then interrupted Kay at work to call her attention to it.

But then the thought occurred to her that Kay might decide to send her BACK HOME if she behaved THAT badly. In spite of how much she'd grown since coming here, Anwyn didn't feel comfortable with the idea of DELIBERATELY being THAT much of a brat -- and she most deinitely did NOT want to be sent home. All she wanted was a little more attention and a bit more fun-and-excitement. Was that so much to want ?

However, Kay had NOT said "don't leave the Complex" or "don't leave the space port". Also, there had been no mention of staying away from that little brother of hers. AND he was still the ONLY other person (other than Anwyn herself, so that she could play with Oberon, Amadaine and Mairead in her free time) whom Kay had authorized for access to her room (even when she wasn't home).

A mischevous grin started to spread across Anwyn's face. Perhaps THAT was exactly what she needed to cheer herself up -- she could go find MacConnal. Even if he was on patrol, surely he couldn't be THAT difficult to locate. Maybe he might have come up with a few new ideas by now.

Pulling on her warm cloak and grabbing her wooden flutes, she quickly left her room.
