Ceroill sat again, and ruminated over Anwyn's previous words. "Hmmm...you can't recall his family name? What about his clothing? Can you remember the family colors?" He tried to recall who her freemate was. He also tried to recall if Kay had acquired a matrix. He looked up at Oberon, wondering what he had seen. He suspected that perhaps they had noticed Connor's laran, but couldn't be sure from Anwyn's description.

Anwyn tucked the book carefully away in her pouch to avoid any further distraction while she was thinking. "It was a rather LONG name", she said thoughfully, "and I didn't really notice much about his clothes. I'm not really interested in fashion and almost everyone else around here wears alot of stuff that's black anyways, even the people who aren't stuck with ugly black uniforms". She paused for a monent, then added, "But I do remember that he was taller than me and definitely older than me (but not as old as you). Definitely cute -- bright red hair, and grey eyes and very fit like he worked out alot. And he was really friendly when I met him in the hallway on the way to Kay's".

Then she grinned, adding, "I wanted to know how Lady Dannette had known that I was following the two of them; it HAD to have been magic. I've had alot of practice at following interesting people around -- it helps me avoid getting bored. And I already know that SHE does magic, so I guessed that she wouldn't marry anyone who COULDN'T do it. But they both seemed to think that Kay wouldn't notice THAT about him unless someone told her".

There was another pause, as a thought occured to her. "When Lady Dannette told me that they spotted me because they could both see energy fields, that sounded way cool. So I was curious and wanted to know how to do that. Learning new things is FUN, as long as I get to pick what I'm learning. But when I asked more about it in front of Kay, she got mad at me. She thought it was rude of me to ask him if he could teach ME how to see energy fields too.", Anwyn complained. "And I STILL don't understand WHY she got mad. It was no big deal. And it's not as if I'd said something extremely RUDE and disgusting either. And THAT all turned into an argument. And I STILL think it was horribly unfair that I got sent back back to my room like a CHILD. So I don't know what happenned next".

Ceroill nodded. So she WAS talking about Laran. Intrigueing. "Anwyn, you haven't studied much about our culture here, have you? I know Kay has been studying it -- rather extensively, I believe." He sighed, as he took her coins and put them in the till, then registered the sale of the book. Obviously Kay thought that such information was sensitive, and perhaps dangerous, especially for a young person. Then again, from what he recalled of Kay's views of things, she had a rather religious outlook on Laran. Which he believed to be at odds with the 'standard' Terranan way of looking at things.

He sat again, and looked Anwyn in the eyes. "Anwyn, I'm afraid I'm about to give you advice. I want you to try and look at part of this rationally, instead of as an emotional teenager. I know you're very intelligent, and capable of seeing the truth. Now, since Kay has more familiarity with local customs and mores than you do, doesn't it seem logical to trust her judgement of what might be considered rude?" He wasn't sure just how much Kay knew of Darkovan society and their views of Laran, but he knew it was generally wise to be cautious in asking about such things.

Anwyn frowned, then paused for a moment to figure out how she wanted to phrase her reply. "SOME of the time I do ... but she's not always CONSISTENT ! Sometimes it seems like she's deliberately hiding behind a mask of uptight-and-excessively-formal manners. I think she uses that as a defensive way of distancing herself from someone (or some topic of conversation) that makes her feel uncomfortable", she pointed out, "and anyways, Lady Dannette wouldn't have mentioned being able to see energy fields if it was a rude topic -- and SHE is Comyn herself, so she'd be more of an expert on what Comyn consider to be rude".

He actually smiled, rather than the frown that she'd been expecting. "You'll have to forgive my chancy memory, Anwyn, I am getting a bit old. So it does seem the subject unsettles Kay at the least. So, while I realize you're a very curious girl, it's probably best for what relationship you do have with her to back off a little. In my experience pressuring someone who's that spooked about something only makes things worse, and drives them further into silence and irritability."

"But it's not FAIR ! I'm NOT some small child who lacks sense enough to come in out of the rain !", Anwyn protested. She couldn't help that she was young and short and female. "As things currently stand, I'm not happy. KAY is the one who's gotten into trouble in town, not ME. Yet I'M the one who's getting punished as if it was ME who did something wrong". She sighed. Yes, she'd wanted to BELONG somewhere, but she was now starting to realize that this ALSO meant less freedom to do WHAT she pleased WHEN she pleased with WHO she pleased.

It had been a particularly-difficult week for Anwyn, so much so that she had been having trouble concentrating on her work at times. All work and no play had REALLY getting on her nerves -- which is why she'd sneaked out earlier today. "Both Mairead and Amadaine have been acting like sulky little babies lately too, so they haven't been much fun either", she pointed out, "they've been messing up Kay's apartment alot when she's not home -- and I think they've been getting lonely too". She sighed dramatically, and then added "It's no wonder Oberon hasn't been visiting us as often lately -- I don't know WHAT he thinks of all this chaos, but I doubt he approves of it. SOMETHING needs to change, and Kay seems to be at the hub of all this mess".

Then a thought suddenly occurred to her -- the beginnings of an idea of something that would hopefully cause Kay to worry LESS about her, AND that would address her own loneliness too". But she decided to wait and listen first to what Ceroill thought Kay needed.
