Peter (BCK) is named in his father's estate papers. At the time of his father's death in 1812, Peter was still a minor. Based on Census records, it appears that Peter was born about 1797. On 11/23/1816. in Rowan County, NC, Peter Keisler was bound to William Rough to learn the trade of carpenter, and Peter's occupation reflected on later Census records show his occupation as a carpenter.
Marriage notices from the newspaper, Western Carolinian, show that Peter Kistler married Maranda Chapman on 5/15/1826 in Rowan County. The 1830 Census for Davidson County, NC, shows a Peter Keesler: one male, age 20-30; two males, under age 5; and one female, age 20-30. Davidson County was created from Rowan County in 1822.
I have not found Peter in the 1840 Census, but the 1850 Census for Davidson County shows Peter, age 53; Maranda, age 43; William, age 23; John, age 21; Hamilton, age 14; Louisa Jane, age 12; Henry, age 10; Madison, age 7 and Maria, age 3. In 1860 and 1870, Census records show Peter in Davie County; Davie County was created from Rowan County in 1836. The 1860 Census records for Davie county also show Peter's last born son, Calvin (age 8 in 1860).
Peter's will is filed in Davie County. It is dated 12/22/1879, but it was not probated until 4/4/1893. Peter's wife is not named. Children named are as follows: William R.; John A.; Madison F.; Calvin L.; Louise J. Shives, and Maria E. Horn.
