Was given his father's 102 acre farm in Greenwich Twp., Berks Co. 1771. "To Andreas, Jr. and Mary Margaret Ley Dressler were born 12 children, of whom only one, John Jacob, grew to adulthood; three died early of smallpox; three Barbara at 16, Mary at 14, Elizabeth at 12, died of scarlet fever; five children and their mother died in one year." "...enlisted in the 6th class 1777-1780 ...as a private in Captain Smith's Company 2nd Battalion, Berks County, Pennsylvania Militia..."
After marriage to second wife Catherine, moved in 1801 to Cumberland (later Perry) County '25 miles west of where the Juniata joins the Susquehanna' Purchased 200 acres from Enoch Anderson on Sherman's Creek south of Andersonburg. In 1812, purchased 146-acre farm and tavern west of Loysville near Michael Loy on the old Allegheny Path
