Notes for James GAINES
"Captain James Gaines was an officer of the Revolutionary War, during a part of which he served with distinction at the head of a company of volunteers. He was the nephew of Edmond Pendelton who for many years was presiding judge of the court of appeals in Virginia. James Gaines was a man of great intelligence, considerable talent, and high character. He was in the Battle of Eutaw Springs and Guilford Court House and other engagements. He was a member of the North Carolina Convention which ratified the Constitution of the U.S. Sometime after this he removed to Tenn. and died in Kingsport in 1830."
