"DR. HORACE E. KISTLER--In June, 1889, just after the disasterous flood, the Hahnemann Homeopathic College Hospital of Philadelphia opened a dispensary in this city, from which medical attendance and medicine were given free to all flood sufferers. The institution was in charge of Dr. Horace E. Kistler, who, during the six months the dispensary was open, treated upwards of 3,000 persons. After the dispensary was discontinued Dr. Kistler decided to locate permanently in the city, and opened an office on Adam street, near where the dispensary had been located. In 1891 he removed to 122 Market street, and in March, 1892, located in his present cheerful office at 313 Main street.

Dr. Kistler was born October 29, 1858, at Blaine, Perry county, Pa., and when eight years old moved with his parents to Philadelphia where he attended the public schools. In 1882 he began to attend medical lectures at the Hahnemann Homeopathic College, and was graduated from that institution in 1885. He then opened an office in the city of Philadelphia and practiced there until the Johnstown flood occurred. He was then selected by the officials of the college to have charge of the free dispensary which was opened in this city."
