Notes for Johannes KISTLER
Johannes KISTLER /b: abt.1750 /d: Jun.12,1817 /con. by Daniel Schumacher at Red church on Apr.19,1867 /m: abt.1775 to Eva Maria WEIDERSTEIN /b: Apr.8,1750. He was on the Lynn twp. tax list from 1831on, listed as a Blacksmith owning 180 ac. His name is on the U.S. house tax list of 1798, at which time he owned a one story log house, 32' x 26', valued at $150. This was about the average size house at the time.
This Johannes(John) is shown as the 4th child of Han Jorg by Hollenbach with a birth date of about 1750 to 1752. He married Eva Maria Wiederstein (Witterstein according to Schwar). It is not clear why Werkheiser puts him as the 5th son of Johannes (1737 immigrant). Johannes's (1737 immigrant) widow Maria Barbara names her sons, I believe, in order of birth, which means the 5th son would have been born abt.1761. Eva Maria's date of birth is verified by her father Henrich in the Wiederstein family bible," born in Europe in 1750 ".
Elaine Schwar shows John & Eva in the 4th position of the immigrant Johannes's children which is in conflict with his widow, Maria Barbara's Will which names her 5th son as a Johannes born abt. 1761.
He was in the Northhampton County Militia -4th class, 6th co., 3rd batt.,(later the 6th batt.)-for the eastern portion of Lynn twp. ( New Tripoli area ), which is consistant with the early location of the HanJorg family as opposed to Berks county where the immigrant Johannes was located.
For all of the above reasons, I choose to leave him as the 4th child of HanJorg.
He made a Will, dated 1/20/1817 and probated on 6/12/1817, in which he named only (3) of his children. He specifically named "my two sons, Michael and Conrad Kistler" as well as "my oldest daughter Barbara, married to Johannes Schneider".
