Notes for Henrich KISTLER

Heinrich (Henry) Kistler was a Farmer and Stockman. He disposed of his interests near Kutztown, PA. and moved to Ohio in 1815. He transported his household goods in wagons and with the help of his children, he drove cattle and sheep over the mountains. The road from Wheeling to Fairfield Co. was over Zane's Trace which followed the present (1916) U.S. Route 40 to Zanesville and then over the Indian trail to Lancaster. During the journey a son, name unknown, died and was buried in PA.
In June 1815, he paid $6,100 cash for a section of land in Bloom twp. near Carroll, OH. in Fairfield Co. This was part of U.S. Congress Lands that had been bought by Isaac Mason and Mr. Felkner at Chillicothe in 1807. This land had been the location of the Wyandot Indian tribe. Their provincial town was Tarhe, where Lancaster is now. After the Treaty of Greenville in 1795, the Indians began to leave and were all gone by 1800. He had a gristmill and sawmill where much of the virgin timber was converted into lumber. His son Samuel lived there after him. Many Kistler's are buried in the old Betzer Church Cemetary West of Carroll, OH.
George, Henry, Daniel and David moved from Carroll, OH. to Royal Center, IN.
