Hello! I got sick of typing all this out on the tripod html editor, so here goes my first shot with notepad! I was just listening to "Hero" by Mariah Carey. That is such a sad song!! ::::sobs:::: Anyhoo, (wow, haven't said that in a while...) here is my fic. In this fic, Serena and Darien are just normal people who happen to fall in love. Other than the concept of that, I did come up with the idea to the story, so please, please, please don't take it, k?? Oh, and for those of you wondering 'bout my whole screen name changing, as of now, it is Tess. Enjoy my fic! Sailor Moon doesn't belong to me, it belongs to Naoko Takeuchi, Kodansha, Toei, Cloverway, etc., etc. and more people that aren't me...I really would rather not be sued ^_~ "Endless Waters Chapter 1" by Tess Serena Lands and her best friend Katie Carter walked through the throng of people on the boarding deck of the "Shining Star" cruise ship. They were on summer vacation from college, and Katie had convinced Serena to come. Serena sighed as a family with their noses stuck in the air dressed as if they were onboard the "Titanic" walked by. Serena thought, She hated arrogance. Some said that it was because she was jealous, but that was before they knew that the Lands' of Charlotte had been the richest family in South Carolina for a good hundred years. Not that Serena was proud of that fact. She found nothing more boring than sitting around sipping tea while gossiping about how Marian Graham decorated her kitchen or how Adrian Chrichlow was wearing a scandalous dress at Mara Owen's 20th anniversary bash. Serena wanted to be a writer. Her parents didn't approve but when her good grades landed her a scholarship in Florida they didn't have much of a choice but to let her go. It was at college that she had met Katie. They were roommates, and Katie also wanted to be a writer. Katie had long dark brown hair and dark, almost black, eyes. "Hello, earth to Serena?," Katie asked, waving a hand in front of Serena's face. "Huh?," Serena said, "Oh, sorry Katie.. I was just thinking, why did we come on the thing again?" Katie rolled her eyes and replied, "For the eightieth time, Serena, because it'll be fun! You'll see. There's gonna be games and dancing and karaoke and gambling! (AN: On cruise ships, you can gamble if you're eighteen, and they are both 20) Who knows Serena, maybe you'll even find your dream guy!" "Right Katie. Me, Serena Lands, slow dance under the stars on a boat. That sort of thing only happens in books." Serena sarcastically said. "You are way too pessimistic, Serena! Anyway, here's our room," Katie said as she opened the door. The room wasn't too different from their dorm at college, but with a little more space and a balcony. The carpet was light blue with blue and pale yellow accents. When they stepped out on the balcony, since they weren't facing the port, the endless sea stretched before them. It was beautiful. Katie was practically bouncing up and down from excitement. "Hey, lets go out on the main deck to wave to everyone!," she said excitedly. "You go ahead, I'll be out in a few minutes," Serena replied. Katie shrugged and walked out the door. The wind on the balcony tousled Serena's long, loose blond hair. She was thinking about Katie's comment from earlier," maybe you'll even meet your dream guy." The words seemed to ring in her head. Serena had had one or two boyfriends imposed on her by her mother, but they didn't match up to her *ideal* guy. And it wasn't that she wasn't pretty. She had long golden blond hair that she usually wore in two buns atop her head and dark blue eyes that seemed to always be shining. Serena sat down in a chair on the balcony. She had been in love once before. She closed her eyes and was transported to an earlier time...at her 16th birthday party... ***Flashback*** "Goodness Serena, can't you just be proper?," Alice Lands shouted in exasperation, "Just for one night?, act somewhat ladylike! Act like the Lands you were born to be!" "The Lands I was born to be?," Serena shouted back bitterly, "I was *not* born to be a dumb airhead who only cares about parties and croquet! I was born to be a writer!" She ran out of her mom's office, her tears spilling on to her light blue gown. She ran all the way to her favorite stone bench in the rose garden. Once she sat, she began to sob and cried out into the night sky, "Why? Why can't I just write? It's all I ever wanted to do!" She bent her head and continued to sob. The silver stars became covered with clouds, and fierce raindrops began to fall from the sky. The wet drops mixed with Serena's tears. She heard someone sit down next to her. "Hey, you're the birthday girl. You're not supposed to be crying!," an unfamiliar voice said. Serena looked up, and found herself staring into a pair of blue eyes that matched her own. Silky black hair framed his face, and he wore a black tuxedo with a cape. The expression he wore was of pure concern, not something Serena got often. "Wh-Who are you?," she sniffed. He chuckled and began to speak, "I'm Dar-wait, you must be freezing." He took of his cape and wrapped it around Serena's shivering body. The rain began to let up a little bit. "Thank you...," she murmured. He went on, "My name's Darien. Darien McAllister. Kinda sad that one of your guests has to introduce himself, huh?" Serena looked up into the sky and laughed. "Do you know what's even more sad about it?," he asked. Serena shook her head, smiling. "That my family and I are staying at your estate for a week." The look on Serena's face was of pure confusion, and it made Darien crack another killer smile. "Our parents have some business to do together, and your parents invited us to stay with your family while it takes place.," he said, "Now, Serena." She smiled at him calling her by her first name, instead of "Ms. Lands", which was what she got from most people. He went on, "Why don't we go inside so you can get dry and then we can talk some more, and you can tell me why you're out here crying on your birthday." She nodded, and Darien helped her up from the bench. It was only sprinkling now, and he put his arm around her and they walked back to the house together in silence. ***End Flashback*** Serena smiled remembering the happy time. she reminded herself. She didn't want to think about *him* any more. They had stepped out of each other's lives years ago, and that's how it was meant to be. Serena grabbed her purse off of the bed after stepping in from the balcony, and rushed to go and meet Katie... ****************************** hehehehehehehehe!
