304 Recap - Danny

Sperm Donor Pageant

I don't know about Mel, but I did not find this to be a nightmare. All the boys were so handsome. One thing, I am starting to dislike the hairdresser these days. I have no problem with the fresh fcuked look when it applies, but now I think the style is mess it up and you're ready to go. But anyway, Brian being called the favorite is an understatement and Ben being the last one with the longest screen time is a hint that he is Mel's perfect candidate. However, we all know that can't happen. When Brian's name is announced the look on his face is so very cute, I was fully expecting to see a crown get placed on his head. Ben was at first happy for Brian but then very disappointed, foreshadowing his desire for children that we see later. I understand how Mel feels about having a child with someone she really doesn't like but calling him an "asshole" after everything he has done just makes me crazy. Yes, he caused problems with the adoption in S1, but he made things right with that and has helped in many ways since. When is she ever going to forgive him?

Office Interaction

I loved the interaction with Brian and his partner. It was light and humorous. Brian holding the water away from him was really cute and very Brian. It is good to see him playful again. But I have to wonder, when reading the ingredients for Hot Potatoes - "to give it that extra special kick" - was this a reference to Hotlanta? Hot Potato/Hotlanta? Hmmm. If it is, then bravo to the writers, at least they have watched previous shows. When Cynthia walked in, I couldn't help but notice that they need to turn up the heat in that office. HeHe. Speaking of the office. I like Brians new corner office. I felt so proud of him. No windows by the hallway, that should come in handy. There is much to say about the sister/nephew thing. There should have been a better reason for Brian to have to babysit. He's 12. Why couldn't he have stayed home alone? Why couldn't he just go to the hospital with her? Why was she taking the time to find a sitter when her other kid was in the emergency room? But I know they had to set it up somehow, so I guess I won't pick that apart. It seems like it would have made more sense to have the younger one left with Brian and the older one who got hurt. The kid, what a brat! Where is his father? I know they are divorced, but is he completely out of the picture? Have a chip. Have two. I just love Brian! That evil snicker at the end of the scene reminded me of that evil guy from Rocky and Bullwinkle.

Sperm Donor Pageant #2

The way they were looking at all the guys like they were meat. Shame, shame. Women don't do that. <wink> I agree with the Justin reasoning though, he is still too young. But Ted, why not? Ok, so he is a nerd, but wasn't Mel always hanging out with him before? Shopping for Mikey's b'day present, brunch to discuss finances, and there are numerous others. He has always seemed to be the one that Mel connected with. So I don't understand why she passed him off so easily. What is wrong with being reliable? And Mikey, well of course kids love him, he is still a child himself most of the time. And the line "he won't give us any trouble"...dum da dum dum.

Nephew at the Diner

I just loved this whole thing. Emmett/Ted's remark about the young new boyfriend and Justin's reaction. That was so great. When Brian introduces him as the spawn of Satan and his sister to Debbie, she says she thought she noticed the family resemblance. Brian says "both sides". I am not quite understanding this. Both sides of what? It was great to see Justin and Brian so easily communicating again. Justin is really paying attention to what is going on with Brian, obviously this boy still cares. This scene was so straight forward about Justin paying attention and nephew saying he always goes to the arcade at the mall after school. A lot of people on the boards are wondering how Justin knew where to find him. We didn't have to figure it out, they put it right in front of us. Geesh, pay attention. Debbie, a drag queen! HaHaHa When Justin first met her he thought she was a freak. Maybe she should do away with the wig. This little actor did a great job playing this part. And actually, this kid is alot like Brian. Being a smarta** must be an inherited Kinney trait.

Comic Book Store

It is so sweet, Ben starts talking about having a kid....again they are foreshadowing his mood later...then Brian cuts him off. Brian was trying to teach the little nephew a few things...don't be greedy...say thank you...sometimes we don't get what we want...what a good Daddy....but I was a little concerned about Brian grabbing him by the coat and yanking him up though. I thought Brian was being pretty mature up to that point. Mikey is noticing all the trips to the gym, that's good. And the sarcastic "no, no problem" that he whispered to himself shows us a sign that he is starting to feel neglected.

Ted/Emmett

Hmmm. I have no thoughts actually. I like them together, but I was really just wanting to get back to Brian and Justin so I found myself wanting this scene to be over already.

The Dinner Invitation

Why was there all this covering of Gus' ears with the sh*t word? Mel was spouting out the f word non-stop in the last few episodes. When did it become a problem? I am glad that it did, but anyway. Did anyone else notice that Gus had lines?

Mel: we would like you to be father

Gus: the father

Mikey: me?

Gus: yay

I played it several times, I swear it is there.

The swirley:

The swirley didn't bother me. Brian had it done to him by that jock in highschool, it makes sense that he would resort to something that was familiar to him. I don't think it was inappropriate because the kid was being a potty mouth. He had called him a fag numerous times, stole money from him, condemned him to hell, and kicked him in the leg. He was out of control and needed something to snap him out of it. He's 12, a time-out wouldn't work. I didn't think it was funny at all, it showed how crazed this kid was and why he would have been mad enough at Brian to make up stories "to get even". Part of me though, thinks the spawn might be in denial of his own homo-tendencies. Because if he has these feelings and knows how his mother and grandmother feels about it, it would make sense for him to go to these extremes to lash out at Brian, like it is Brian's fault that he may be feeling the same way. That could be just my sick mind at work, but I don't know, next season, little Johnny could be asking Uncle Brian for advice, and then we would have, yet again, a connection between Mikey and Brian. The gay nephew Mikey has an Uncle Vic who is gay, Brian is a gay uncle with a gay nephew. Hmmmmm, I have to think on that some more.

Brian's confrontation with the mom and sister after the police questioning:

I absolutely hate them. I found my heart going out to Brian during that scene. I felt like his heart was being ripped out. There was so much pain in his face. He never once said "I didn't do it", he just wanted them to know it. He was begging for them to just believe him. His realization that they didn't know it, was like stabbing him in heart. He knew then there was no point in denying and it was clearly evident on his face. When he told his mother "fcuk you" and his voice was cracked and eyes were in pain, I really felt like he was thinking "you're my mother, why can't you just love me?". It is no wonder that he is so messed up, he has never been loved at all. His father resented him for being born, his mother resented him for making his father resent her, and the sister, well, she is just upset because she wakes up ugly everyday. No wonder it took so long for him to tell them he was gay, he didn't want to give them any other reason to not love him. He was needing it so badly he had to deny the truth, they didn't love him when they thought he was a straight successful man and he knew him being gay would be the end of what little was there. As much as I hate to see families torn apart, I hope that "fcuk you" was also a goodbye, he doesn't need the heartache. I was touched, heartbroken, and clapping my hands when Brian told his mom off. I am sad that she hurt him, but bravo to him for saying she wasn't going to hurt him anymore. It is a damn good thing that she doesn't know about Gus, she won't be able to spat her beliefs on him. I always wondered why Brian never told her, boy I understand now. And bravo to him again for that.

The ending scene:

The longing in their eyes made me go another direction entirely with my thoughts on this scene. This is a tough one because my twisted mind wanted Brian to grab Justin and throw him on the floor right then and there. I want them together so bad, but I also know they are not ready yet. The story hasn't gone where it needs to go yet. They aren't seeing eye to eye yet. I think Brian came to his realization that he should have given a little when he was going through his mourning, so I think he has waivered a little. Remember, he is not kissing anyone. Justin, still hasn't had his epiphany. When he does, he will be willing to give some as well. Then they will be closer to eye to eye. It is healthy, not all break ups have to be bad. Them seeing each other outside of the bedroom will help them learn more about the other person and put their ideas of what went wrong into perspective. I think the distance is good. How long can they wait? Well, I hope not much longer. <g> But really, Justin sees love as monagomy and he wouldn't cheat on Ethan, so I think he could hold out. Brian doesn't do friends, so that is what keeps him from jumping Justin's bones. He may be a sex machine, but he also has total control over his body and feelings. Once Ethan is out of the picture though, that's a whole other story. If Justin makes a moves, Brian might just loose his control. When they do, it won't prove that they love each other, they both already know that. And it won't prove that they are great in bed either, because they both already know that too. I think it will prove that they NEED to be together and they NEED to figure out how to make it work.
