Stage Sets and Props The size of your puppets and the setting in which you will be using them will determine what sort of props you will need to use with them. For most hand puppets, doll clothes and accessories for 12-14" baby dolls will fit fairly well. You need not invest a fortune on clothing for you puppets, but you may need to do a little hunting. Thrift stores often have doll clothes or baby clothes for only a few cents each. Look in toy and craft stores for doll clothes or clothing designed to use with teddy bears. You can often find sweaters, scarves, hats and glasses which will fit your puppets perfectly. You may also find "career" clothing such as policeman or fireman outfits. The following can be used for a variety of hand puppets: Child sized glasses or sun glasses Scarves Small musical instruments such as drums, tamborines and bells Small books Doll furniture such as beds or chairs Hats Small stuffed animals Plastic fruit or vegetables Small baskets with handles Bicycle horns (use with ducks or geese) To Puppet Index
