BRIGHT EYED NAÏVE

You’re real.
That’s all that matters to me.
When I reach out my hands,
I feel the sweat
and the muscles.
You’re real
and it’s all I could ask for,
the fact that you’re real
and so devoted to me.

So maybe I’m misguided
and maybe I don’t see.
And after this,
so bloody long,
I remain the
bright-eyed naïve.

 Your hand,
moving over my body,
so still I’m afraid it’s death.
It’s like I’ll shatter
if you touch me too hard.
Your hand
brushes tears from my eyes.
I’ll pretend that you’ll
stay now,
however wrong that
idea would seem.

All I ask
is you lay down your love
for this pitiful
bright-eyed naïve.

So maybe I’m misguided
and maybe I don’t see.
And after this,
so bloody long,
I remain the
bright-eyed naïve.

I’m weaker now
than I’ve ever been.
Please don’t ever leave
the bright-eyed naïve.
