TAKEN

You can strike up another
pointless conversation
and I’ll smile oh so politely
then tell you I’m taken.
It’s not really a lie.
I’m taken.

Taken up by the eyes
whose warmth has gone cold,
taken in by the slowing heart
that’s getting so old.
I’ll never find
my time with her again.
It ended in anger
and we’re not even friends.

You can try some more
with the maddening smile,
but I swear I’m taken.
I have no more room
for your wasting assumptions.
I haven’t really changed.

I don’t want any more
of you’re unbearably masculine ways.
I just don’t go for that.
I’ll never go for that.
I can’t bring myself
to go for that.
I’m taken.

(Take me away.)

Taken up by the eyes
whose warmth has gone cold,
taken in by the slowing heart
that’s getting so old.
I’ll never find
my time with her again.
It ended in anger
and we’re not even friends.
