This was taken from the April 2003 issue of Classic Rock Magazine: The official line was that Vandenberg was unable to record. "Whitesnake has primarily always been a two-guitar band, and Adrian Vandenberg had written the material and had a problem with his hand," Vai said. "he had this horrific tendonitis of sorts, and he couldn't really perform at the level of his potential and at the level that was necessary for a record of that magnitude. Vai also had further damands when he joined Whitesnake: "I said: 'I am a solo guitar player, I am not a second guitarist. I have to do the majority of the solos, that's just the way it is. Whoever the second guitar player is, if it's Adrian or whoever, this is one of the requirements. This is just what I do.' And there was never any question." |
