| A Little History: Shortly after leaving RATT Jake was offered the position of lead guitarist for the L.A. band ROUGH CUTT who was managed by Ronnie James Dios wife Wendy. After perfoming many dates with this band he was eventually asked by Ronnie James Dio to join his band. Dio had just left Black Sabbath to start a solo carreer and was very impressed by Jakes musical talent, image and attitude. They wrote material for the first Dio album but eventually parted ways due to musical differences. It was then that Ozzy Osbourne contacted him for an audition having been suggested to Ozzy by bassist Dana Strum (Vinnie Vincent Invasion/Slaughter) - he had also suggested Randy Rhoads to Ozzy. Jake audition against 500 guitarists worldwide and was finally chosen. But as Jake has revealed since then it was not quite that simple, (he actually arrived half an hour late for the audition and thought he had blown it) originally Jakes good friend George Lynch (Dokken/Lynch Mob) was picked but then asked to leave due to Ozzys drug related mood swings. Jake was immediately flown to England to begin rehearsals where the Ozzy Osbourne band commenced the European "Speak Of The Devil" tour. |
