Def Jam Vendetta
DEF JAM VENDETTA: (PS2) 10/31/03

GRAPHICS- The graphics are nicely done in a semi cartooney fashion. Each Wrestler, ahhh, excuse me, Rapper is done in a manner that distinguishes each from another and are very detailed and perfect for the setting.

GAMEPLAY- Aki has made its return to a Sony console. This is an Arcade Wrestling game that plays like a sim except for the over the top, over the edge finishing moves that are distinctly in tune with EABig. Its the tried and true AKI formula that we have grown to love (or hate). The game play is a step down from the No Mercy engine where there are some move situations that have been removed while some have been added. Any one that is accustomed to the AKI engine will feel right at home with its latest offering. Even though this is a generic Wrestling game, its one of the best Wrestling games to grace the PS2. The underground fighting backdrop fits well within whats going on.

BEST FEATURE:
+The AKI engine making its debut on a next gen console.
+The well detailed Wrestlers.
+The well detailed Wrestling areanas.
+The story mode.
+The graphics.
+Very good voice acting

WORST FEATURE:
+Absence of a CAW/CAR mode
+Limited match types:Single/Tag/Battle Royal
+The tag matches are less that spectacular
+No weapons of any type

IN A NUTSHELL- For AKIs first effort on a new system, its a damn fine job and a worthy addition to anyones Wrestling video game collection. The fact that there are Rappers and the like have no bearing on the fun that is Def Jam Vendetta. For the next installment, Im sure every one will expect a CAR mode, more match types and of course refined game play that AKI is well known for.

SCORE: 8.9 out of 10
