Golf & family Day Report

The Golf and Family Day at Sutera Harbour Golf & Country Club last Friday was a tremendous success. Sutera Harbour organised a wonderful programme of activities for all of our pupils, while many of our parents and friends of the school participated in the golf tournament. We were most fortunate to have such generous sponsorship by Sutera Harbour.

As a result of the tournament, the school raised RM12,000.00. This money will go towards the computer lab that we will have ready for the beginning of next term. The PTA worked very hard to organise this and are deserved of tremendous praise and thanks for their efforts.

The school would like to thank the following people and organisations for sponsoring prizes and making donations of money for the tournament:

School Assessments (Primary) and Examinations (Secondary)

The end of year assessments (for Primary Dept.) and examinations (for Secondary Dept.) will take place in the week beginning November 20th. The only exception to this will be for the Year 10 class that will begin their examinations on Friday, 17th November.

In the case secondary pupils, these examinations will be based largely upon the year's work. It will also take into account work also studied in previous years. These examinations have been specifically designed to revise work covered in class as well as train pupils in exam techniques in preparation for when they take the IGCSE examinations.

Primary pupils from Year 2 and above will sit standardised NFER assessments in English and Mathematics. These are part of an on-going assessment practice that occurs in each class, and the information gleaned from these is aimed at informing future planning needs for each pupil.

Art Day : Friday 24th November

There will be an Art Day organised for the whole school on Friday, 24th November. The pupils will rotate through a series of activities aimed at developing a deeper interest in art. We are most fortunate to have also have the Blind Society coming to the Art Day to teach the pupils Cane weaving.

Art Materials Requested

Donations of old magazines, coloured paper and materials, and white or cream coloured materials are sought for use on the art day. If you have any of these items please send them to your child's class teacher.

Transport Required for Blind Art Society to Art Day

The Blind Society in Tuaran, who will be assisting the school on Art Day do not have it's own transport. Any parents willing to provide transport for them to our school and back to the Head Quarters please speak to Mrs. Dennis.

The Blind Society will also bring baskets to school to be on sale that morning.

Mt. Kinabalu Climb

Secondary pupils will be climbing Mt. Kinabalu during 27th - 30th November. A meeting is to be held for parents on Monday, 13th November at 7.00pm to discuss logistical arrangements. Parents are requested to have checked the equipment list required for each pupil.

Museum Trip: Reception - Year 3

The Reception to Year 3 classes will be going on a trip to the Sabah Museum as part of their class studies on Thursday, 16th November.

Hats at School

A decision has been made to make it compulsory for pupils to wear hats when they play outside in the sun. Therefore parents are reminded that pupils should be encouraged to wear hats when playing outside as protection. The school hats available from the school office are the only hats that should be worn at school. If your child does not have these already, please see Ms. Jasmine in the office

School Shoes

Up until now, the only footwear for pupils are plain white shoes. However, it has become evident that these are becoming increasingly difficult to find, and the white canvass sand-shoe that can be bought do not provide good cushioning. Therefore the rule on this has been altered somewhat. Pupils are to wear shoes that are predominantly white; this means trainers and sports shoes that are mainly white in colour.

Families Wishing to Buy Computers

The school is about to purchase a large number of computers thanks largely to the fund raising efforts of the PTA and the support of friends and families in our school. In doing so, we aim to secure very good discounts in the cost for each computer. Therefore, if any family is looking to purchase a computer  for themselves or their children and enjoy the bulk buying opportunity that this will provide, please speak to Mr. White or Ms. Elis.

Skelly-bones Production

Those who still wish to order a copy of the video tape for the Lower School Show should do so with payment of RM20 per tape to the front office by Monday 13 November.
