Dear Parents

Primary Department: Parent Teacher Interviews

A letter will go home today inviting parents in the Primary Department to make an appointment to meet their child's classroom teacher. The purpose of this meeting is to simply open lines of communication between home and school. Because these interviews are taking place early in the academic year, the teachers will only be in a position to discuss initial observations; however they will be keen to discuss these to help establish homework routines and the like at home.

School Uniform: T-shirts

After an initial delay, the collared t-shirts that are part of the new school uniform are available in all sizes (small, medium, large, extra-large) through the school PTA.  Order forms are available from the school office.

PTA Welcome to New Parents

The PTA has arranged a High Tea at the Sutera Harbour Resort to welcome new families to the school. All parents are invited to attend this. It will be held at Sutera Harbour on Friday 5th October at 4.00pm.

Sutera Harbour Sprint Triathlon

Sutera Harbour is organising a sprint triathlon on 14th November at 8.00am. This will be held at the Sutera Harbour Resort and the course will be within the confines of the resort itself. The main emphasis of this event is to introduce triathlon racing as a healthy recreational activity. The school is encouraging as many pupils, staff and parents to participate in this. See details on the school notice board.

School Photos

A photographer will be in school on Wednesday 3rd October to take individual and class photographs. The photographer will also take photos of brothers and sisters together if requested to. There will be a class photo, individual photos and passport photos. The cost of the package photos is RM25 per pupil. Parents are requested to have this paid to the Office by Wednesday 3rd.

Grade Cards

All of our secondary students will be bringing home their grade cards today.  The grade cards show your child’s progress since the beginning of term. The students have been graded according to attainment and effort by their teachers. Please read the grade descriptors on the back of the card for an explanation of the grades. A “3C” approximates to satisfactory progress so any A’s or B’s for effort are to be commended. Please sign the cards in the box provided and send them back to school on Monday. If you have any questions about the grade cards please contact me, Kevin Davies (Head of Secondary), at school. Thank you.-

Change of Day for Sports Club

As part of the build up to the Sutera Harbour Triathlon, the Sports Club which was to be held on Mondays has been changed to Thursdays so that students are able to join the swimming training at Sutera Harbour. Parents are requested to make arrangements to drop off and collect their child from there.

WWF: October Promotions

WWF, of which Kinabalu International School is a member, will be organising various events throughout October related to the theme of Mountains of Malaysia. The school will have a stall selling WWF products as well as organise an exhibition based upon the stated theme. There will also be a competition to design the most attractive 'Collection Box' for the street appeal.  Please refer to the attached for further information.

IGCSE Examinations

Our Year 11 students are now involved in their IGCSE Art examination. They will complete the rest of their exams in the remaining subjects after half term. We wish them every success in these.

Year 2&3 Japanese School Visit

Our Year 2 & 3 class went on a visit to the Japanese School which is situated on Jalan Tuaran. This was to further promote ties between our two schools. By all accounts our students had a very enjoyable and informative time at the school. Thank you to Ms Dennis for organising this.
