Dear Parents

Welcome back to the start of a new term. I trust everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing break. I would also like to welcome the new families to the school as well. This will be a busy term, as we prepare pupils for a move up a class level in September.

This move up a class level is a term earlier than normal because of the fact that our academic year is being changed to match the British academic calendar which operates from September through to August. The staff have been planning this move for the last eighteen months, accelerating the curriculum coverage, so as to ensure there is minimal disruption to the students.

Checkpoint & IGCSE examinations

Next week our Year 9 pupils will be sitting the Checkpoint examinations. These are set and marked by Cambridge University, and have been designed to highlight various academic strengths and needs for these pupils as they enter the IGCSE years. The following week our Year 11 pupils will begin their IGCSE examinations. All these exams will take place in the library.

After School Clubs

A letter will go home next week for pupils to make selections for clubs. Clubs will begin the following week (14th May).

Term 2 Calendar

Attached is a calendar of events for parents’ information.

Steve Pinfield will give a talk and slide presentation entitled 'Life in the Freezer' on Friday 11th May at 2.30pm in the school library. This is open to all pupils and parents to attend. Steve Pinfield lived and worked in Antarctica and will share his knowledge and experiences on this unique environment. A special thanks to Mrs Lamb and Mrs Marsh for arranging this.
