Dear Parents
Computer Lessons for Parents

Mr White will be holding computer classes for parents beginning in the week of 7th March. There will be a beginners’ class held every Tuesday at 8.00am to 9.00am and an intermediate class held every Friday at 8.00am to 9.00am. The classes will go on till the end of the term. The purpose of these classes is to update parents’ computer literacy so that they can assist their children at home with ICT work. Please see Mr White to sign up for these classes.

School Adventure Club Rafting Trip

The school Adventure Club had their first outing last Sunday. This was a rafting trip that involved a treasure hunt on the Kiulu River. Eleven pupils participated in this. It proved to be a very enjoyable day for everyone. Parents of Secondary Department pupils are encouraged to have their child take advantage of these unique opportunities. A special thanks to Ms Stansfield, Ms Hardie and Mr Dickinson for leading this trip. Thanks is also due to Borneo Ultimate Sports Adventure for giving us a huge discount on the package deal.

A second adventure trip is being planned for next month. Details for that trip will be announced soon.

Formal Speech Competition

The pupils in the Secondary Department have been writing and presenting prepared speeches as part of the curriculum. Seven pupils were selected from amongst all the pupils to present their speech in the finals held today. The finalists were Karthik Rajah, Jayant Rajah, Darren Low, Min-Yee Tseu, Claudia Lim, Derek Lawrie and Marco Marsh. Each of them gave very credible performances and are to be congratulated for their efforts. The winner was Karthik Rajah. Thank you to Ms Hardie for all the work she has put into organising the speeches, and to Mrs Anthea Lamb and Mrs Loris Wong for giving up their time to act as judges.

Secondary Pupils Must Have

Secondary pupils should have calculator, geometrical drawing equipment and 30cm ruler.

PTA Annual General Meeting

The PTA will be holding their Annual General Meeting on Thursday, March 1st at 8.15am in the library. All parents are invited to attend the meeting. An important part of the meeting will be the election of committee members for the coming year.

The School PTA has made a tremendous contribution to the school during the last year. Many social and fund raising events have been organised for the benefit of the pupils in our school. On behalf of the school, I would like thank each of the present PTA Committee for all their hard work.

Pupils Arriving Early at School

A reminder that pupils should not be in school before 7.30am. Staff are not on duty until this time, and therefore this rule has been put in place for safety reasons.

Coming Holiday Breaks

A reminder that the school will be closed on the 5th & 6th March for Hari Raya Qurban.

Junior FOBISSEA Games

The school will be sending a team of nineteen pupils to the Junior FOBISSEA Game in Brunei on May 24th – 27th. This is an excellent response to this project. Ms Dennis and Miss Johnstone are working hard to ensure a very enjoyable trip for all the pupils. Sponsors are being sought so that our pupils have a team kit. Training has begun during PE and swimming lessons already.

Training also takes place during Games Club on Tuesday afternoon.

Hats

Pupils are encouraged to wear hats at break times.  Please ensure your child has one.
