Dear Parents

This week Mr Van Rijswijk and Mr White have been attending an ICT (Information and Communication Technology) Conference in Penang. No doubt they will be returning with many more ideas on how to get the best out of our new computer laboratory.  They will be back at school on Monday.

On Wednesday afternoon, Mrs Anthea Lamb visited the Year 4/5 Class to talk about pitcher plants.  Her depth of knowledge and obvious passion for the subject, and the many specimens she brought along made the talk a great success.  All the pupils had a chance to see the carnivorous pitcher plants close-up.  Feeling the waxy inside of the pitchers, the children could imagine what it would be like to be an insect slipping down inside the plant to a watery grave.  Thank you Mrs Lamb.

Congratulations … to Marius Thomsen (Year 8), Laura Wong (Year 9), and Cheryl Quek (Year 10) for winning a prize for their entries in the Poster Drawing Competition for the World Wetlands Day 2001 Celebration.

World Wetlands Day 2001 Celebration

The posters will be part of an exhibition at the Kota Kinabalu City Bird Sanctuary on Sunday 18 February (8-11am).  Also on display will be exhibitions about wetlands and phonographic competition entries.  There will be presentations by local school children and an informative slide show about wetlands in Sabah.  You can also purchase World Wide Fund for nature merchandise or take a pleasant walk around the mangroves on raised walkways.  The Bird Sanctuary is a great place to see birds like egrets, little herons, purple herons and kingfishers.  Crabs and mudskipper fish are also easily spotted and fund to watch.

To get to the KK Bird Sanctuary, take the road past Likas Square going away from the coast.  At the traffic lights, turn right up Jalan Bukit Bandera (Signal Hill).  The Sanctuary is on the left.

 Rafting Trip - Adventure Club:

Some students will be going on a rafting trip this Sunday as part of the Adventure Club activities.  They should meet at school at 9am on Sunday.  They will be back around 3pm.  Do not worry if you cannot go on this trip, others will be organized.

Primary Department

Please take note that all school uniform and PE kits should be labeled with your child’s name.  This is especially important in Early Learning Class and Reception/Year 1 Class.
