Dear Parents
We seem to have packed at least five days into this four day week! It all got off to a rather bad start on Tuesday when we lost our electricity at around 9.15. The word from SEB was that it would be back in two hours but as the morning went on it became apparent that this was not to be. The heat rose and by afternoon everyone was sweltering and struggling to get sluggish brains moving. Added to this was a water crisis. Still, we made it through the day in good humour and the sighs of relief when the electricity eventually returned around 4.00 were probably audible several kilometres away. From then on the week has got steadily better and as I write this I am very much looking forward to the Mothers’ Day assembly due to take place in a couple of hours’ time. Second
Language Survey Letters
were sent out on Wednesday asking all parents which language they would

9 SATs Our Year 9 students will be very happy people at 2.00 this afternoon because they will have completed their SAT exam papers. These exams, in English, Maths and Science, are the culmination of their work in Key Stage 3 and mark the end of a “key stage” in their education. Next year, they start on (I)GCSE courses. Well done, Year 9, for surviving the week so well! Science/Maths
Post We have a vacancy for a locally appointed Science/Maths teacher. If you know of any suitable candidates for this position, please let the school know. This could be a part-time post – which might increase its appeal for a busy parent. Is there anybody out there? Year
11 Examinations Things get even more serious next week for Year 11 as the main body of their examinations starts. We all wish them the very best of luck – but also hope that luck won’t really come into it! Raffle
Prizes for the FOBISSEA Games Last week’s newsletter contained a request for prizes for the fund-raising raffle for our FOBISSEA Games team. We have had some generous contributions but would welcome more, please, to make the raffle irresistibly attractive!

Board
Vacancies The following item appeared in last week’s newsletter but has attracted little response! I will repeat it here: “I have been asked by the Board of
Management to draw parents’ attention to the fact that there is currently
a vacancy on the Board and that at the end of this academic year a further
two places will become vacant. Interested parents should contact the school
office or any current member of the Board for details and further
information.” The Board has a crucial role to play in the life and well-being of the school, so please let us know if you are interested and able to contribute. Sports
Notice Our sports commentator is now back in business, with a summary of current sporting events in the secondary section: The
Thomas Uber badminton tournament pales into insignificance when compared to
the K.I.S. secondary department open boys’ and girls’ tournaments.
Closely fought games have seen the girls narrowed down to Lim versus Wong
and Curtis against Mahamud. Claire, once again proving the old adage about
the female of the species being more deadly than the male, has impressed
with her power game whereas Claudia is more of a touch player, exhibiting
some fine skills. In the boys’ half, Gavin Young impressed but must learn
that intimidation has no place on the badminton court. The tournament was
thrown wide open when red hot favourite Eric Doi pulled out due to exam
commitments. Rizal Aslie waits in the final for Marsh or Law. Once again,
can I take this opportunity to applaud the way our children behave when out
of the school. It has been, at all times, excellent. Keep the shuttles
flying. Futsal
In
order to help our Year Eleven students, there will be a futsal session every
Friday from 4pm – 6pm whilst the examinations are in progress. I wish all of you a good weekend and look forward to an uninterrupted, and hopefully cool, five days of school next week. Best wishes, |
