Dear Parents

As you read this I shall be attending the FOBISSEA Business meeting in Singapore . FOBISSEA has two meetings a year, this one and its full conference. The purpose of the Business meeting is to plan events for the year ahead as well as to have an AGM. FOBISSEA increasingly operates on two levels: its programme for pupils, which includes the Games, music festivals etc, and its programme for staff. The latter has reached a particularly exciting stage with plans afoot to create a Centre for Professional Development in the region. This would be a huge bonus for all FOBISSEA teachers. One of the problems with working overseas for a protracted period of time is staying up-to-date with professional developments in England . The establishment of a Centre for Professional Development would go some considerable way towards remedying this and I am hopeful that real progress will be made in its planning this weekend.

Mrs Wickham has just returned from a FOBISSEA Primary Conference on “Excellence, Enjoyment and Assessment for Learning”. Teachers from 19 international schools from around the region attended the conference.  This was a very rewarding and worthwhile experience. Teachers discussed recent developments on teaching and learning, focusing on creativity in the Primary Curriculum and looked at current initiatives in UK education.

  Environment Week

Plans for Environment Week in Term 3 are progressing. Dr Pilcher has kindly offered to help devise and co-ordinate a programme. He will be meeting with senior staff next Wednesday for a planning session. If you have ideas to contribute, please see Mr Davies, Mrs Wickham or me before then.

As part of Environment Week, we are considering a beach clean up. To make this effective, we will need rubber gloves, sacks etc. Would anyone be willing to sponsor these? And does anyone have any contacts with Nestle or Milo to provide us with a drinks wagon?

Badminton

Our secondary students will be playing badminton at the Foo Chow Association Hall on Friday mornings until the end of term. As the hall does not open until 9.00am our usual schedule has been changed. The day starts with the lessons that are normally timetabled for the third period. Then the pupils will be taken by bus the short distance to the badminton hall for games. On their return, they will have their break followed by assembly. Period four sees the normal timetable return.

 Best wishes,
