- Dear Parents
Primary
News
The whole of the Primary
Department has ad an eventful week visiting local places of worship.
On Tuesday we visited the
Hindu
Temple
and on Wednesday the Mosque. It has been a rich experience for the children
to be aware of these places in the vicinity of the school.
This has made our Festivals Topic meaningful for the children, and it
has allowed them to visit the places of worship that are prominent during
Hari Raya and Divali. Thank you
for Mrs Mandalam Ravi and Mrs Hadijah for helping us to arrange this.
Many
thanks to those who participated in the ‘Halloween Pumpkin Carving
Competition’. We received a variety of Jack O’ Lanterns with a great
deal of personality. Each of those pupils who participated will receive one
house point. Third place is
awarded to Francita. Second
place goes to Rika and first place to Gavin.
Well done to all and have a chilling Halloween weekend.
Thank
you parents and class teachers for the opportunity to discuss the
children’s progress at the consultations this week. If you were not able
to attend please see the class teacher to book an appointment.
Early
Closure of School
Just
to remind parents the school will close at 1.00pm next Monday and Tuesday
to allow staff to attend in-service training. Please collect your child
promptly on these days so that the training can start on time. Lunchtimes
will remain the same for the Primary children. There will be no Games
Club, Parachute Club or Mandarin Classes after school on these days.
There will be a slight change to Primary clubs next week; information
will be given on Monday.
Children’s
Golf Club
A final reminder please for
anyone wanting to join the Golf Club. Transport
needs to be arranged and at the moment there are only 6 children wanting to
participate. Therefore the cost
of hiring a coach will be expensive for those six children.
Please may I ask you to hand in your application form on Monday in
order for me to finalise arrangements. Hopefully
it will be starting next Thursday, 4th November.
AGM
Reminder
The
AGM will be held in the school library next Wednesday, 3rd
November, at 8.00pm. Any breaking news about the meeting will be posted on
the bulletin board outside the Principal’s Office. As a new Board of
Management will be elected, it is vital that the quorum is met so please
make every effort to get to the meeting.

Bangkok
and
Taipei
Visits
Earlier
this week, Mr Davies attended the FOBISSEA Senior Managers’ Conference in
Bangkok
. The guest speaker was Professor Jeff Thomson, Head of the Bath University
Department of International Education, who discussed issues concerning the
management of international schools and recent developments in education for
14 to 19 year olds in the
UK
. In addition, the conference looked at pastoral issues and it was
reassuring to find
that KIS operates a similar system to most FOBISSEA
schools.
On
Thursday and Friday, Mr Spice is in
Taipei
for the FOBISSEA Heads Conference.
Year
7/8 versus Year 9 Football Last Friday at Bukit Padang
Perennial
rivals, year 9 and year7/8 matched up last Friday at the K.I.S. pitch. A
blistering afternoon of
Sabah
sunshine ensured that only the strongest would win out. Year 7/8 made the
early play with Leslie Loh omnipresent for the Young Pretenders. Year 9
marshalled their forces with, Corissa Loh putting in some wicked challenges.
7/8 broke the dead lock with a goal by Carl Marsh just before the interval.
The game was finely poised after half time with some wonderful flowing
football coming out of Alex Woi.
The year 9 team looked poised to draw level when sleeping giant Wickham
awoke to slot home a fine goal. At this point Chitra Mandalam rolled up her
sleeves and kicked everyone in a ten metre radius Undeterred by this setback
the year nines pressed and were rewarded by a super goal from Afiq. Wickham
restored the two goal cushion as tempers started to fray. Midfield dynamo
Mary Walker snatched a late consolation goal, but it was too little too
late. The year 7\8 collective ran out worthy winners. Gavin Young was
noticeable more for his extreme fashion sense than his dribbling skills.
Special mention must go to Afiq, Risky and Adib who played despite fasting.
A true example of esprit de corps.
A big thank you from the K.I.S. sporting fraternity to Mr Ujihara, who
has been helping with the basketball training sessions in preparation for
the forthcoming FOBISSEA games. I know the young players appreciate his help very much.
