Dear Parents

The play’s the thing…

You will forgive me, I am sure, if this week’s newsletter is somewhat pre-occupied with the school play, but The Demon Headmistress is only days away from performance and, as always at this stage, there are a thousand things to remember! However, by far the most important thing is to remind you all to buy tickets! I am confident that we are going to have good audiences but Sutera Harbour needs numbers for food on the Friday night. It is really important, therefore, that tickets are bought in advance. Please support the efforts of staff and students and make it a priority to sort out your ticket requirements on MONDAY! Once again, the options are:

Thursday 25 March, Sutera Harbour          7.00pm
First Performance (no food)
Friday 26 March, Sutera Harbour              7.00pm
Second Performance (food)

Tickets for the performances are available from the school office now.

The Thursday performance does not include a buffet dinner. Ticket prices are: Adults RM25 and children RM15.

The Friday performance will be followed by a buffet dinner and the ticket prices are Adults RM45 and children RM30.

Again, I would like to stress that this is not really a fund-raising event. The ticket prices simply reflect the need to cover our costs.

Skipping Ropes

Our playground has recently become a blur of colour. The donated skipping ropes have been a huge success with everyone from Year 1/2 to Year 11 anxious to grab a rope and start skipping. It is lovely to see so much pleasure being derived from such a low-tech, traditional and healthy activity.

Hockey Sticks and Balls

Many thanks also to the PTA for a donation of hockey sticks and balls. Hockey is beginning to catch on in the school and it is good to see hockey sticks being used for their proper purposes and not simply as offensive weapons!

QCA & Data Protection

QCA is the curriculum body in England from which many of our practices and tests derive. We received this week a letter from them concerning the Data Protection Act 1998. Under its provision, schools are required to notify children and parents that students have a right to know the data held on them by the school. They do this in England by issuing what is known as a “fair processing notice”.       I have had to sign a letter saying that we, as a school, will issue such notices and this announcement is made, via the newsletter, to inform you of the situation and to indicate that we will indeed issue fair processing notices to all parents who specifically ask for them. Obviously, we are not an English school and we are not in England, so the relevance of all this is questionable. However, I have honoured my commitment by letting you know!

Primary Reports

The new interim primary reports were issued this week and will provide parents with information about their children’s progress in the core areas of English, Maths and Science. Do not hesitate to talk to the class teachers if you are in any way concerned.

Hats

It is noticeably hotter and brighter at the moment but we still have a number of students who do not have, or are not wearing, hats. Can I please remind all parents that, in line with school policy, children need to have hats – and we will insist that they wear them!

From the PTA: Family Fun Day Cancelled

We regret to inform you that due to insufficient response from the parent body, the minimum requirement for the Family Fun Day function was not met. Therefore, this event has been cancelled.

You may claim your refund from the school office.

Primary Football Competition

The much-awaited final of the Primary football tournament saw the Red Devils fighting against the Punching Penguins. A tense opening highlighted the gravity of the occasion. Both teams gave 110% on the field of battle. Goals were exchanged and before the crowd could catch its breath, the final whistle was blown. The spectre of penalties had arrived. Nerves were frayed. Both teams converted their spot kicks leading to sudden death. Largely due to Sirad’s performance between the posts, the Red Devils emerged triumphant. This correspondent would like to thank all Primary participants for playing within the true spirit of this beautiful game.

Forthcoming Events

The football community here at KIS is waiting with bated breath for the forthcoming rematch against DHI. The DHI camp has been producing so much negative propaganda, that one hopes that a KIS victory may teach them a lesson in humility. The match is next Wednesday, at the archery field, at 5pm.

****************

I look forward to seeing all of you at the play.

Best wishes,
