Dear Parents

Swimming Gala

Last week’s Swimming Gala was a great success and I would like to thank all of those involved in the organisation for their hard work. The biggest winners were, of course, the children. KIS has always had a strong swimming programme and its benefits were evident in the very high percentage of students who were able to take part. I always think that swimmimg is one of the essential life skills and it is particularly important that it is given prominence in a place surrounded by so much water. From the splashings in ELC to the accomplished performances from older primary and secondary students, the gala was a celebration of achievement.

If any of you would like photographs of the gala, Mrs Hamilton has kindly made hers available to the school. They can be ordered from the school office at 50 cents each.

Family Fun Day

Posters are now up advertising Family Fun Day at Rasa Ria on Sunday March 21st. This is essentially a social event and should live up to its name and be a fun day out for all the family. Please come and join us in the beautiful surroundings of Rasa Ria and take this opportunity to spend a little time with other parents from the school.

The Demon Headmistress:  Rehearsal Details

We had our first rehearsal for the secondary school play in our performance venue this week. After the cosy Year 5/6 classroom, the Mini Theatre at Sutera Harbour suddenly brought home to all of us that performances are now very close. We have three more rehearsals at Sutera Harbour, as well as rehearsals at school, before the performances. Here are the details of the Sutera rehearsals and performances:

Thursday 18 March, Sutera Harbour              1.00 – 4.30
Monday 22 March, Sutera Harbour                1.00 – 4.30
                (Technical Rehearsal)
Tuesday 23 March, Sutera Harbour                1.00 – 4.30
               (Dress Rehearsal)
Thursday 25 March, Sutera Harbour             7.00pm
               First Performance (no food)
Friday 26 March, Sutera Harbour                 7.00pm
               Second  Performance (food)

The Demon Headmistress: Performances and Ticket Details

Tickets for the performances will be available from the school office from Monday 15 March.

The Thursday performance does not include a buffet dinner. Ticket prices are: Adults RM25 and children RM15.

The Friday performance will be followed by a buffet dinner and the ticket prices are Adults RM45 and children RM30.

I would like to stress that this is not really a fund-raising event. The ticket prices simply reflect the need to cover our costs.

Please support the show. Primary children over (but not under) the age of six will be able to enjoy the performances and this offers them a rare chance to see some live theatre. The primary Christmas presentation was very well supported and we look forward to seeing full houses for both performances of The Demon Headmistress! This is the first time for a very long time that the school has presented any show for two nights and we hope our ambition is well founded. However, it is perhaps worth saying at this point that if we sell less than 40 tickets for the Thursday night we will have to consider just the one performance on the Friday.

HELP!!

Does anyone have a pair of old-fashioned, preferably round, John Lennon type sunglasses? We need a pair for the play and promise to keep secret the identity of any kind donor!!

First Aid

In answer to a couple of recent parental queries, I should like to inform parents that both Christine Hardie and Jon Leak have recent First Aid training and are our designated First Aiders in the event of any accident at school.

Cambridge Summer School Programme

I have received details of the Cambridge Summer School Programme, which is held annually in Cambridge for 14 – 16 year olds. It is a three-week programme and costs GBP2800. Please ask me if you would like further details.

Primary Football

It’s a sporting life”

The last two weeks have seen high drama in the primary open football tournament. Mr Leak has been impressed by the efforts and spirit of all players. Eight teams took part, which from a small school is a sterling effort. The roll of honour reads Santa’s Claws, Punching Penguins, Ridiculous Rhinos, Silver Streaks, Wonder Weasels, Top Stormers and the Red Devils.

The league stage should be completed by this Friday, delivering two interesting semi-finals. Players who have impressed this reporter include: Mads Gronbech, Gavin Hamilton, Jesse Fitzgerald, Elie Ancrenaz, Aiman Kamal, and Franziska Klauser. Del Sinsua was cat-like between the posts. The most fearless performer was Louisa (the axeman) Lim, who is clearly not afraid of man or beast. Mr Leak would like to thank all the players for the spirit in which the tournament has been played.

  Clash of the Titans

This Friday, sees the long awaited clash between Year 9/10 and Year 11. It will be a match up of different footballing philosophies, with the cultured samba football of Year 9/10 against the superior athletic prowess of the seniors. This correspondent hopes that the game will be played in the true spirit of football.

Thanks to Mrs Celeste Young, for helping out with the Year 7/8 Hockey lesson on Wednesday 10 March.

Skipping Ropes

Very many thanks to the PTA for the lovely skipping ropes they have donated to the school.  They are brightly coloured and very safe looking. They will give many children a great deal of pleasure as well as increasing their fitness levels.  A double bonus!

 Best wishes,
