Dear Parents

We are all eagerly looking forward to tomorrow’s Swimming Gala, which will take place at the Likas pool. Can I stress that this event is an integral part of our curriculum and we expect to see all children there. It should be a very enjoyable morning!

Can I please remind you to drop off your children at 8.00am so that we can start the busy programme on time. Please use the access road that leads directly to the pool and NOT the main entrance to the sports complex. It is a much more convenient route (map attached).

If possible, could we have children in their PE kit, which of course means they will be wearing their House shorts. This is a change from last week’s newsletter and I apologise for the late amendment – but as the children will be sitting in their Houses, it makes sense for them to be wearing their House colours.

The arrangements for ELC and Key Stage 1 have been outlined in a separate primary letter that went out earlier this week.

If you are unable to stay and watch the gala, please remember that we aim to finish at 11.30 and children need to be collected from the pool at that time. There will be no further school that day.

Finally, the pool area is delightfully shaded but that may make it a little chilly for competitors between races. It might be a good idea, therefore, to bring a tracksuit top or sweatshirt to avoid getting “cold” between races.

The Demon Headmistress

The time to performance is getting ever shorter and it is time to move the play out of school. We have, therefore, arranged the following rehearsals at Sutera Harbour Mini Theatre:

Wednesday 10 March             1.00 – 4.30
Thursday 18 March                1.00 – 4.30
Monday 22 March                  1.00 – 4.30
         (Technical Rehearsal)
Tuesday 23 March                 1.00 – 4.30
         (Dress Rehearsal)

For each of these rehearsals, we will go by bus from school but parents are asked to collect their children promptly at 4.30 directly from Sutera.

Year 11 Coursework

Can I inform all parents that (I)GCSE coursework for Year 11 students is, for the most part, due in by the end of term.

Picnic Tables and Benches

The secondary section of the school is now looking even smarter with the arrival of new picnic benches and tables. The whole area looks a great deal smarter and I am extremely grateful to the PTA for yet another manifestation of their hard work and fund-raising skills.

Art Books and Magazines

Our somewhat belated, but nonetheless sincere, thanks to Diana Hughes for a fine collection of art books and magazines that have been placed in the library and art room respectively. They will prove an excellent resource.

Football

After a stunning victory at the archery ground two weeks ago, the rematch was set for Likas Stadium.  Opponents DHI promised a strengthened team, and as the game progressed this proved to be so. John Gronbech (a parent at KIS) was influential in midfield, orchestrating several forays deep into the KIS defence. Eventually this pressure told, leading to a two-goal deficit at half time. After the turnaround KIS regrouped with a series of attacks down the right flank, Mr Doi being the driving force in this phase of the game. Wickham in midfield and Hughes in defense battled with spirit but eventually DHI pulled away with two late goals. The lesson to be taken from the defeat is not to let heads drop after conceding early goals. The team was cheered on by Year 10. The scene is now set for the decider in three weeks.

Congratulations to the “Im lovin’ it dum dum dum dum dums,” who won the school’s knockout championships. The team was made up of Kevin (Jam) Hughes, Claudia (Spot) Lim, Ashley (Curl) Ling and Michelle (Radar) Quek.  Currently the primary pupils are competing in their own tournament.

Best wishes – and I look forward to seeing many of you tomorrow,
