Dear Parents

As I write this, Year 5/6 have just left for their trip to the water treatment plant and dam, and the whole of the secondary department has gone to play their final session of badminton at Foo Chow hall. Thanks to a mix-up by the bus company, it did look for a moment as though the secondary students might be playing badminton on the dam wall, but I am pleased to say that everything was eventually sorted out and the bus company finally worked out was going on. The best laid plans…

 Campfire Night

Year 1/2 had a good time at their campfire gathering last Friday. It was a dry night, the fire burned well (which was helpful to those who felt 30 centigrade a little chilly) and sausages were cooked to perfection (well, almost). The marshmallows posed a little more of a challenge to both children and parents as they unhelpfully dripped off the toasting sticks before reaching the ideal crispy golden brown stage but, for all that, a good time was had by all. I would like to thank Ms Dennis and all parents who helped to make the evening a success.

School Photographs

The school photographer arrived on Wednesday morning and set about taking class pictures and the individual portraits for the school magazine. Students and staff, of course, looked at their heavily coiffured best and if by some chance we don’t all look wonderful, then we all know that the camera lies…

Cinema Visit

The primary trip to the cinema was a resounding success and a well-deserved treat after the hard work leading up to SATs and the National Curriculum tests. The organization of the trip was made more difficult by the cinema’s apparent inability to tell us from one day to the next what they would be showing and at what time. Despite the stresses that this imposed on the organising staff, the trip ran smoothly and was very much enjoyed by the children.

Orphanage

Parents of primary children in Years 3/4 and 5/6 have received a letter outlining our proposal to join with the PTA in supporting a local orphanage. Children in those classes have already started to collect suitable books, toys and games. If you are able to add to these contributions, whatever class your children are in, please feel free to do so.

Internal Examinations

End-of-year examinations for Years 7 to 10 are getting closer. The majority will take place from June 21 – 23 and students in those classes should now be preparing and revising. If they haven’t understood something, or have forgotten it, now is the time to seek help – not on the day that the examination paper appears!

Primary Swimming

Local schools will be back in operation next week, so primary swimming will resume on Wednesday and Thursday. Please ensure that your child has the necessary swimming gear to take part.

Badminton

Today’s badminton session is the last. This has been a hugely successful and popular experiment and I hope to see it on the calendar for future years. In the lead up to Sports Day, we will start our athletics programme next Friday.

Primary Football

The lunchtime primary football tournament is now in full swing and it is good to see the enthusiasm engendered by “the beautiful game”. As Europe gets geared up for the launch of Euro 2004 this weekend, we have our own intensely competitive tournament to enjoy! Once again, my thanks to the staff who give freely of their time to make these things happen.

Annual School Magazine

Attached to this newsletter is a form for any parents who might like to advertise through the annual school magazine. I know that a number of you have business interests in KK and this is an ideal way to reach a wide audience – and help the school at the same time. If you would like to advertise in our July issue, please complete the details and return the form to the office by 18 June 2004. Thank you.

Have a good weekend. With the timing of the Euro 2004 matches, I fear there will be some bleary eyes on Monday morning but … it’s not every day that England has the opportunity to beat the French!

Best wishes,
