Another four day week draws to a
close…. feeling like a five day one! This, however, was the last of the
short weeks and from now until the end of term the weeks stretch out
uninterruptedly before us. With IGCSEs starting quite early in May, it is
a particularly valuable time for Year 11 to consolidate their knowledge
and hone their skills. School
Visit Diane Dennis and Jonathan Shale will be
out of school next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. They are visiting the
British International School, Jakarta, to look at numeracy, ESL and
Special Educational Needs. I hope this will be the first of a number of
links with other schools in the region. It is always of interest, and
usually extremely beneficial, to see how other schools organize their
teaching and learning and school visits are a very effective way of
sharing ideas and good practice. Cookery
Club There will be no Cookery Club next week. The
Demon Headmistress Rehearsals for the play are going well
and we are now entering what I regard as the final stages of preparation.
We have rehearsed every scene in the play – all we need to do now is put
them together! All of the cast now need to make sure
that they know all of their lines ready for the run-throughs that begin
next week. Details of costumes will be issued to
students very shortly and I would ask for your co-operation in equipping
the cast for what I hope will be an enjoyable production. Swimming
Gala The Swimming Gala takes place next
Friday, 5 March, at the Likas pool. All parents are asked to arrange for
their children to be dropped off at the pool at 8.00. Children should wear
school uniform but have their swimming costumes on underneath. It is a
good idea for all students to have water, a snack and a hat. There is a
small snack bar at the stadium which students will be allowed to use at
half time. Students should be collected at 11.30,
please, and there will be no further school on that day. Please come and support your children –
it should be a good morning! Arrangements for ELC, Reception & Year 1/2 will be outlined in a separate letter. |
Secondary
Football Competition As I write this, the final of the
secondary lunchtime 4-a-side football competition has yet to be played.
Yesterday’s semi-final was an exciting affair that ended up in a penalty
shoot-out. The eagerly awaited final takes place on Monday. The whole
competition has livened up lunchtimes considerably and I would like to thank
Mr Leak for again giving up his free time to encourage enjoyable participation
in sport. Primary
Football Competition Following on from the success of the
secondary competition, Mr Leak has kindly agreed to run a similar lunchtime
competition for primary students. Teams will be selected and organized by the
students themselves and Mr Leak will sort out the structure of the competition
and referee the games. Friday
Football Many of you will know the huge success of
the football matches played after school on Fridays from 2.10 – 3.10. Sadly,
almost every game has ended with students hanging around school long after the
game has finished - in some extreme cases, for up to an hour and a half. This
has put the future of this very worthwhile fixture in peril and an ultimatum
has now been given to the participants: make proper arrangements to be picked
up promptly or the games will cease. This would be a sad loss but after a term
and a half of reminders and polite requests, options are running out! Colleges
of Further Education We have had representatives from both
INTI and Taylor’s colleges in school this week. While we are unable to
support an A level option, it is worth remembering that A level and foundation
courses are on offer locally, a number of them with strong links to overseas
universities in England, Australia and New Zealand. St
Francis Convent Development In last week’s newsletter I mentioned
that we hoped to have a meeting with representatives from St Francis Convent
to discuss road access and the planned building programme. Datuk Raymond Tan,
Elis and I attended a meeting yesterday with the architects of the new
development, who seemed responsive to our concerns. I feel encouraged that we
have at least entered into a dialogue about issues that may well prove to be
of major importance in the years ahead and I would like to thank Datuk Tan for
his efforts on behalf of the KIS school community. Best wishes, |
