This
four-day week seems to have assumed the characteristics of most four-day
weeks – that you simply cram the normal five days into four! I am
tempted to use the word “frenetic” but perhaps that is an
over-exaggeration – just! This
week’s newsletter seems to have an even more random collection of items
than usual but there are some interesting and important points here. Board
of Management
At last night’s Board of
Management meeting, Datuk Raymond Tan agreed to hold the office of Vice
Chairman. All the Board’s offices have now been filled, with Mark
Heywood as Chairman, Ana Kollert as Secretary and Shirley Wong as
Treasurer. I look forward to a fruitful working partnership. Gift
of Hoops Mrs
Klauser has kindly donated to the school a set of colourful hoops for use
at play and lunchtimes. What better way to slim waistlines after lunch?
Although this has appeared on the
newsletter a couple of times before, I am still not sure that the E-System
is solidly in place. The PTA divided the school into teams some time ago
and appointed team leaders. In the case of emergency, the school’s role
is to contact the team leaders and the team leaders then pass on the
necessary information to those in their team. This cascade system will
clearly not work unless all parents know the identity of their team
leaders. This is a renewed plea, therefore, for team leaders to contact
their teams and establish communications –with apologies to those who
have already done so. Head
Lice From
time to time head lice appear on children’s heads in our classrooms.
Because they are contagious, it is important that parents are informed
when there is an outbreak in a particular class. In future, therefore, a
letter will be sent home to the parents of all children in a class in
which head lice have been reported. As I am sure you know, the treatment
is repeat washing with a special shampoo that is available in local
pharmacies. Head lice are an inescapable fact of school life, especially
for younger children - and they especially like clean hair! Borneo

Visit
of Chris Smith I
shall be bringing Chris Smith back with me from Brunei. Chris was for many
years the ICT advisor to the British Schools’ Foundation in Hong Kong, an
organization that serves some 12,000 students. Chris is doing a consultancy
with us to help and advise on our use of ICT in the school and will be with us
for two days, Monday 15 and Tuesday 16 February. Primary
Production Costs At
the last Board meeting, I was asked to point out to parents that the primary
production costs exceeded the money recouped through ticket sales. The deficit
of around RM700 was met by the school. Apart from venue related costs, we also
incur costs for props, extra hours of part-time teaching, travel etc and it is
not always possible to pass these on and charge a realistic ticket price. The
same may well prove true of the forthcoming secondary production as well. Reading
Club I
was handed some very nice work this week by a member of the Reading Club. Very
impressively, it had also been typed up by the child! It was good to see how
productive our co-curricular activities can be. Swimming
Gala The
new date for the Swimming Gala is 5
March. We will hope that
this time we do not get gazzumped! PTA The
PTA’s monthly meeting will take place on Monday,
9 February at 8.30 am in
the school library. Everyone is welcome to attend. The
Culture Kids Charity will
be launching concurrently in 26 cinemas nationwide the exclusive preview of
the movie “The Cat in The Hat” (by United International Pictures)
to raise funds and support for countless numbers of children in charitable
homes. Your
support for this event will create more opportunities for the less fortunate
children and enhance Culture Kids Charity to provide for them. Best wishes, |
