Date: 23 April 2004

Dear Parents

It’s good to be back! The two-week break seemed short, I have to say, but so many of our children were so obviously pleased to be back at school (yes, really!) that it was infectious. It already seems as though we have never been away.

Primary Topic Talks

As usual at the beginning of term, Topic Talks provide a good opportunity for parents to meet the class teacher and hear what the children will be learning this term. They also enable parents to have a clearer idea of what they can do to support their child’s learning. The dates and times are as follows:

ELC/Reception      -   Tuesday 27 April at 8.00 am
Year 5/6                 -   Tuesday 27 April at 2.00 pm
Year 3/4                 -   Tuesday 27 April at 2.30 pm
Year 1/2                 -   Wednesday 28 April at 2.00 pm

We look forward to seeing you there.

Sports Day

Next Friday, 30 April, is Sports Day. The events will take place at the Penampang Sports Stadium, Donggongon. This was not our first choice venue but it proved impossible to book an alternative.

Please deliver students at the stadium at 8.00 am. They will need to bring their PE kit with House shorts, a towel, a change of clothes, their school cap and sun block.

Programmes for the events will be sent out next week together with a map to the stadium.

The events will finish at 1.30. Please pick your children up promptly. There will be no further school that day.

The PTA will be selling snacks and drinks so please ensure your child has some spending money – it’s all in a good cause!

Changed Holiday Dates

A list of important dates for the term is included at the end of the newsletter but I would like to draw your particular attention to the fact that 3 and 4 May have now been declared holidays and school will be closed. This is a change from the Academic Year calendar.

Oliver! Performances

The musical extravaganza “OLIVER!” is being presented by Datuk Simon Fung school this weekend at the Menara Tun Mustapha (formerly Yayasan Sabah) in Likas. This is another rare opportunity to see excellent performing theatre in KK. Performances are on:

Friday 23rd April  …... 7pm
                Saturday 24th April … 2pm
                Sunday 25th April …… 2pm

I am told that performances will start strictly on time! Tickets priced at RM50, RM25 and RM12 will be sold at the door (but for Friday night, only the RM12 tickets are still available). Contact Anthea Lamb (tel: 231842) for further information. Don’t miss this opportunity!

An Announcement from the PTA

The PTA welcomes the new families to Kota Kinabalu and KIS who have joined us this term.

The next monthly meeting will be on Monday 26 April 2004 at 8:30am in the School Library.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

Dress Code

I would like to remind all Secondary students to adhere to the dress code outlined in the Personal Organiser. The guidelines for jewellery and haircuts need to be followed, please.
