Date: 17 October 2003

Dear Parents
The last six weeks have flown by and we seem to have raced up to half term of the longest term of the year. It has been an eventful and productive period and I would like to thank the many parents who have supported the work of the school in so many different ways, giving generously of their time and energy. We all benefit.

Visit to the Japanese International School
On Wednesday, Mrs Hamilton and Ms Hardie accompanied a group of children from Years 4 to 8 on a visit to the Japanese International School as part of the exchange/friendship programme that has been running for the last two years. Mr John and other teachers from JIS organized a very enjoyable series of activities that included language games, interviews, group painting, music and origami. Thank you, JIS, for such an enjoyable day. We look forward to having you visit KIS in the future.

FOBISSEA Games
Parents of children in Years 3 to 6 will already have received advanced notice of the primary games, which are to be held in Penang in May/June of next year. The host school, St Christopher’s, is busily trying to juggle dates to encourage as many schools as possible to attend and we hope to be one of them. If all goes well, there could be as many as 700 children at this year’s event.

PTA
I would like to thank the PTA for its support with a number of initiatives this term. The latest is to provide an area of rubber matting underneath the swings so that they are safer and more usable in wet weather. Hopefully, this will be carried out over half term.

Red House Book Club
Catalogues and order forms for Red House accompany this newsletter. This is an excellent opportunity to buy good books at reduced prices and it is not too soon to think of those early Christmas presents. However, we need your orders by 31st October, please. There will be no further order this term and a reminder that we shall need to reach a total order of £250 in order to qualify for the discounted freight charge.

Stone Age Art
Please feel free to visit the Art Room to visit the Stone Age! Mrs Hamilton’s Year 5/6 Art class has created a beautiful display of pre-historic art.

House Football
We will be re-launching the House system after half term and the first major sporting event will be House Football on Friday, 31 October. Kick-off will be at 8.30 am, with primary teams playing from 8.30 to 9.30 and secondary teams playing from 10.00 to 11.30. Normal lessons will then resume. We are looking forward to an enjoyable competition and any parents who are free at that time are welcome to join us.
