Dear Parents
What’s this for?
As I write this, a large marquee has appeared in the school playground and the younger children are eating their lunches with looks of surprise on their faces: “What is this for?”  The answer, of course, is the PTA Family Dinner which will be only hours away when you read this. I am confident that it will be a huge success and would like to thank in advance the PTA Committee and all other helpers who have worked so very hard to make the occasion an enjoyable one. I look forward to seeing many of you there shortly.

E(mergency)-List
Thanks to Abier Kamal and Norrie Heywood, KIS now has an emergency phone procedure. Essentially, this is a cascade system with the whole parent body divided into groups, each with an E-group leader. In the event of an emergency school closure, or an emergency of any kind, the E-group leader will notify the parents in their group either directly or through an assistant. I should like to make clear that we are not anticipating any emergencies – but are trying to prepare for what is, by definition, unexpected. At this stage you need take no action – your group leader will contact you to check out your contact numbers.

Book Amnesty
This seems as good a time as any to ask all parents to ransack their homes in search of any school books that may be lurking there! Reading books, library books or school textbooks…. if you have any at home, please return them to school early next week. No questions asked – we will simply be glad to have them back.

Early Leavers
I would also like to take this opportunity to remind parents that school does not close until 16 December. We shall be engaged in meaningful work until then and it really is important that your child misses as little school as possible. The calendar is published well in advance so please stick to the holiday dates and do your utmost to ensure that your child attends school for the full academic year.

Medical Information
When children are enrolled at the school, parents are asked to compete a form that includes medical details. Over time, however, these can become obsolete. Please let the school know of any medical conditions you think we should be aware of – including any restrictions on drugs that might provoke adverse reactions. In the event of any accident, contacting parents is our first priority. However, in the event of us having to act in loco parentis in an emergency when parents cannot be contacted, then we might have to make, or empower a doctor to make, decisions where this information could be important.

KIS Nature Club visit to the UMS Aquarium
The Nature Club has managed to arrange a visit to the new aquarium at Universiti Malaysia Sabah near Yayasan Sabah/Kingfisher Park. The aquarium is part of the Marine Research Institute at the UMS and has excellent collections of fish, corals and other sorts of sea-life. Though it is not open to the public at the moment, Dr Annadel of the UMS has very kindly agreed to give our group a preview.

Date: Friday, 21 November
Time: 3.00 pm
Place: The Marine Research Institute at UMS (about 20 minutes drive from KIS). Ask the way to the MRI from the guards at the main gate at UMS or follow parents from the school, departing at 2.30.

Please contact Anthea or Iggy for further details.

Best wishes for a good party tonight and a restful weekend,
