Dear Parents

Security

Now that the conflict in Iraq has started in earnest, we all need to be more conscious of security. The governments of the three counties most directly involved, the United States , the United Kingdom and Australia , have all issued warnings for their citizens visiting or residing in Malaysia . These governments, whilst acknowledging the effectiveness of the Malaysian Police, advise their citizens to avoid large public gatherings, to exercise caution when visiting commercial and public areas known to be frequented by foreigners (clubs, restaurants, bars, schools, places of worship and tourist areas) and to avoid becoming involved in debates that might raise emotions. They all stress the need to be fully informed of developments and to be vigilant during the present conflict. The full text of these messages can be found on the notice board outside of the school office. Further information can be found at the following websites: www.australia.org.my, http//travel.state.gov and www.fco.gov.uk.

Hopefully, the developments in the Iraq will not touch the school but we must take every precaution to prevent any threat to the safety of our pupils. With this in mind, we will close the school grounds to all vehicles except when parents or drivers drop off their children in the morning (cars will still require KIS stickers to gain entry at these times). In the afternoon, when picking up their children, we ask that parents park outside and walk in and collect the children. This is to prevent congestion within the compound. The main section of the playground will be closed off to cars and parents’ vehicles will not be allowed to park in the school compound. These arrangements will be in place until the end of term and will be reviewed at the end of the forthcoming holidays. We understand that this will cause a slight inconvenience for which we apologize but I’m sure you agree that the well being of our children must be our first priority. In addition we are contacting the Police and arranging for regular patrols to pass the school.

Thank you to the PTA

The PTA has purchased two new computers and a printer for use in the ICT room. The addition of these computers will allow more of our students to enjoy the benefits of the information age. PE, as well as computer studies, has benefited from the generosity of the PTA. The football and netball bibs purchased by the PTA will be put to good use.

Karaoke Club

Unfortunately the number of students attending the Karaoke club after school on Wednesdays has dwindled to one. Therefore the club has been cancelled for the rest of the term.

Hansel and Gretel

The Primary Production will take place next Thursday (March 27) at the theatre in Sutra Harbour . Tickets are available from the school office priced at RM30 inclusive of supper and soft drinks. They are selling fast, so don’t wait until the last moment to buy them, you might be too late!

Next week, Monday to Thursday, the ELC to Year 5 pupils will be rehearsing for Hansel and Gretal at Sutera Harbour . The rehearsals will be from 8:00 to 10:00 so parents should drop off their children at the entrance to the Marina , Sutera Harbour at 7:45 rather than at school on these days. We are grateful to the parents who have volunteered to drive the pupils back to school after the rehearsals. Parents of all performers will be asked to sign the attached consent forms to allow their children to be transported by these parents. With all these rehearsals taking place, there will be no play practice on Monday after school next week.

Jasmine Wong

After six years working at KIS, Jasmine Wong our receptionist has resigned. Jasmine has been a valued member of the school team for a long time and will be missed when she leaves at the end of term. She has made many friends amongst the staff and parents and we all wish Jasmine every success for the future.

Summer Schools in Melbourne

Next Thursday afternoon, Mr Tom Denham from Trinity College, University of Melbourne, will be visiting the school. Mr Denham is the Director of two International Summer Schools. During the first two weeks in December each year Trinity College holds a Creative Thinking School for Year 9 and 10 students and, in close association with the University of Melbourne, a Science Summer School for Year 11 students. More details of the Summer Schools can be found on the notice board outside of the school office. If you are interested please get in touch with Mr Davies.
