Dear Parents

PTA News

As the PTA AGM and the election of a new committee are so close (March 31), the PTA has decided to postpone the “International Day” BBQ that was to be held on Friday, March 21. The event will now be held next term on a date to be decided.

Visit to DHI

Yesterday afternoon students from Years 8, 9, 10 and 12 visited the offices of the Danish Hydrological Institute as part of careers week. DHI provides services related to river and coastal development. An engineer, a botanist, a marine biologist and a surveyor gave presentations to the students. These professionals spoke about their careers and how their education prepared them for their jobs. We thank two of our parents, Mr Gronbech and Mr Jensen, for organizing the visit.

Personal Organisers

All of our secondary students have Personal Organisers to provide a record of their homework. We would be grateful if all parents can remember to sign these on a weekly basis to show that they have seen the work set. The Organisers also contain a space for parents to write their comments and concerns if they have any. This provides an easy and effective way for you to communicate with your children’s teachers.

Hansel and Gretel

Tickets for the production are now on sale from the school office. They are priced at RM30 and include snack foods and refreshments. There are a limited number of tickets available that will be sold on a first come, first served basis.

As the time for the Primary Production draws near, it is vital that our leading players learn all of their lines. So would they please continue practicing them at home. If you have not yet sent your child’s costume to school on a hangar, please do so as soon as possible.

Save it!

Recently, Year 8/9 have been studying electricity in Science. As part of this topic, they have prepared posters to inform people of the importance of saving electricity. We have attached Marco’s and Jong Ho’s very informative efforts to the Newsletter to remind us that wasting electricity is not just about reducing the size of your monthly bill from S.E.B. Well done Marco and Jong Ho!

The Rainforest Music Camp

The Lodge School in Kuching is hosting this event on July 10 – 13. The Camp combines a Music Festival with an adventure camp. The Rainforest Music Festival is held every year and has bands from all over the world playing. It starts on a Friday and lasts until Sunday night with performances each night and workshops each afternoon. This is combined with adventure activities, including kayaking and jungle trail walks, at Camp Permai , an outward-bound type facility.

The cost of the camp is RM350 for students and RM400 for adults. This includes transport to and from Kuching airport, accommodation in air-conditioned cabins, meals and entry to the Music Festival but not the return flight to Kuching. The Camp is open to students aged 13 and above. If any of our budding musicians are interested in this event, they should speak to Mr Davies before the end of term. Places must be confirmed by April 30.

“Thank You”

The Board of Management of KIS wishes to express its appreciation to Mr & Mrs Kevin Davies for their help in housing the two Swedish students, Emma and Ida, whose visit to the school in February has been a great success.
