Dear Parents

Extra-ordinary General Meeting

Next Tuesday, June 10, at 7:00pm there is an EGM to decide on the Board of Management’s proposal to install air-conditioning in the classrooms. We would ask that all parents attend this vital meeting. The meeting can only proceed if the quorum of 39 is reached.

Installing air-con will be highly beneficial to all of our students. All of the teachers can tell you that the productivity of the children drops markedly in the afternoons because of the heat. Cool classrooms will help to keep everybody wide-awake and productive. With all of the land clearance that is taking place next to the school, the air-conditioning will help to keep the air inside the classrooms free of dust. The installation of air-conditioning will be a step forward for the school and all of our students. Please attend the meeting and make your views known.

Congratulations

Last week we held a competition to see which classes were the best behaved. Stickers were given to the pupils every time they were polite, helpful or considerate. At the end of the week the number of stickers for the pupils in each class was added together. To make the competition fair, we used the average number of stickers per child as our yardstick.

The winning Primary class was Year 2/3 with Year 8/9 taking the honours in the secondary school. Well done to the students in these classes.

PTA Announcement

The PTA is hosting a barbeque at school on the evening of Sports Day, Friday June 27. The barbeque will start at 6:00. Tickets are priced at RM30 for adults and RM10 for children. We need parent volunteers. If you can help, please ring Mrs Julia Schriver on 019 830 1944 or 214 849.

Visit By The Japanese School

Next Friday, June 13, we shall be entertaining the students and teachers of the Kota Kinabalu Japanese School. 15 students and 7 teachers will be visiting us between break and lunch. A few Japanese students will join each of our classes from Reception/Year 1 to Year 8/9. Let’s make them all very welcome and show them what a friendly school KIS is.

Wednesday Choir

The choir had a very encouraging first session on Wednesday afternoon with around 20 students in attendance. They will be practising hard over the next few weeks in order to rehearse a few songs for the barbeque on Sports Day.  The choir was led by Mr Albert and our thanks go to Mr Shale for helping out.

Secondary Exam Week

Students in Years 6 to 10 will be starting their End of Year school exams on Monday, June 16. These exams will go on all week. Obviously, the results of these exams will make a significant contribution to the students’ final report of the year. So it is imperative that all of our secondary students start revising as soon as possible. There will be a lot of material to cover as the pupils will be tested on all of the work that they have completed since last September. Parents, please help your children to revise by testing them on the work they have memorized and by checking their understanding of all the concepts they have learned.

PTA Book Donation

After organising the Edukids book sale, the PTA has donated a number of books to the library. Once again we would like to thank the PTA for all of its efforts on our children’s behalf.

A Reminder

Students should remember to change out of their swimming costumes after swimming and not simply get dressed on top of their wet costumes. This is not only uncomfortable but also unhygienic. We would also remind students that they are NOT to wear flip-flops (slippers) to school. They should arrive at school in their school shoes.

Nature Artwork Competition

Today is the closing date for the Nature Artwork Competition. The artwork will be auctioned off at the barbeque after Sports day. There are many outstanding prizes to be won. Good luck to all who have entered. Thank you Ms Stansfield for organising the event.
