Dear Parents

PTA News

The PTA will be holding a public meeting on Thursday, July 10, at 8.15am in the PTA room or the library. The purpose of the meeting is to encourage more parents to become involved in upcoming events. Coffee and snacks will be provided.

To mark the end of the school year, the PTA has organised a disco. It will take place at Blue Lagoon, Sutera Harbour, on Friday, July 18, starting at 6.00pm. There will be a buffet serving cold selections, soup, homemade breads, hot local dishes, deserts and coffee and tea. The full menu is on display on the board outside of the office. There will also be games for the children. Tickets are priced at RM22 for adults and RM11 for children and are available from the office now!

Sports Day and Barbeque

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those people who helped to make the events held last Friday run so smoothly.

Sports Day was a great success and we have all those who helped to thank. The teachers, staff and many parents and students all contributed to making the day so enjoyable for the pupils.

The PTA Committee – Mrs Park, Mrs Kamal, Ms Dennis and Mrs Schriver - did a wonderful job of organising the barbeque. I am sure that everybody had a very enjoyable time on Friday evening. We must also thank parents who gave money, donated wine or helped to supervise the food and beverages. The music and dance, performed so well by our students, contributed greatly to the fun. All the performers were very entertaining and they seemed to enjoy their time in the spotlight. We must thank Mr Albert who spent many hours working with the children as well as providing the music.

Good News for Nature Lovers

The KIS Nature Club has sprung back to life. Visits are planned to the Ling Zhi Museum and to the Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary. Please see the reverse side of the Newsletter for more details.

Cookies

Everybody will have the chance to taste homemade cookies from the Home Science Club at break-time next Friday, July 11. So don’t forget to bring a few ringgit to school that day so that you can enjoy their delicious biscuits.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Next Friday, July 11, reports will be sent home for all of our students. To give parents a chance to discuss their child’s progress, Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Monday, July 14, for the Secondary School and Tuesday, July 15, for the Primary School. If parents of Primary pupils wish to see the teacher, they should arrange a time with the teacher in person or sent a note to school. For Secondary students, the usual form will be sent home next week.

ESL Visit to Manukan Island

Our Secondary ESL students spent Thursday on Manukan Island expanding their vocabulary about islands and tourism. The trip also provided the opportunity to say goodbye to Jimmijo. Although the weather was unkind, the group managed to avoid getting wet and had a very enjoyable day.

Art Competition

Thanks to your generosity and our students’ talents, the Art Competition raised RM1,000 for WWF Malaysia and Hutan. Prizes have been awarded to the pupils whose art raised the most money. The deserving winners are,

  • Reception – Year 2: Stanley  (1st), Rikky (2nd)

  • Year 3 – Year 5: Franziska (1st), Jee Yun (2nd)

  • Year 6 – Year 9: Corissa (1st), Logan (2nd)

  • Year 10 – Year 12: Song Hwa (1st), Song I (2nd).

Special congratulations go to Serena Lamb for raising the most money overall. Our thanks go to Ms Stansfield for organising the event.

Year 2/3 Library Visit

Recently Ms Dennis took her Year 2/3 class to the Sabah State Library. Students enjoyed stories and a puppet show by the staff of the Library. Students were shown the children’s facilities. They also enjoyed lunch at McDonald’s.

Visit to Tanjung Aru Beach

Last Thursday, our Year 4 and 5 pupils went to Tanjung Aru to investigate the effect of erosion on sea defenses. They also looked for animals that live beneath the sand. Would-be marine biologists soon turned into skilled castle builders! A great time was had by all.
