Dear Parents
Swimming Gala
The newsletter is appearing on a Thursday this week because our swimming gala is being held tomorrow. With some pupils away at Danum Valley last Friday, you might have missed the details of the gala given at that time. Here are the details once more.

The gala will be held at the Likas Sports Complex pool on Friday, February 21. Parents should take their children directly to the pool complex. We would ask that the children arrive by 8:00 so that the gala can start promptly at 8:30. Parents are encouraged to stay and cheer on their children.
The Lower School Competition will be held in the small pool and should be finished by 10:30 while the Upper School Competition should be completed by 12:00. The small pool is out in the open so please make sure that your children are adequately protected against the sun. Parents are free to take their children home after their respective competitions have finished. There will be no Cricket Club on this day.
Likas Zone Sports Report
On February 18 and 19 eighteen students from KIS participated in the annual Likas Zone School Sports Competition. These games involved track and field events. Our students put forth their best efforts and represented KIS well. Samson Yap and Tobias Thomsen tied for third place in the high jump. Congratulations to those who participated and hope you enjoyed the competition amongst the local schools. We would like to extend our appreciation to Mrs Vekic, Mrs Kim, Mrs Mahmud and Mrs Yap for supporting the event.
 Ms Dennis
Our special thanks go to Ms Dennis and Cikgu Mutang for organizing the KIS team.

Borneo Schools Mt Kinabalu Climb
Seri Insan School has organized a climb of Mt Kinabalu for 12 – 17 year old students. This will take place on March 27 – 29. The cost of the climb is RM200 payable to the Seri Insan School Office before March 1. Students who wish to make the climb should return the attached form to our school office by Tuesday, February 25. This climb is a great opportunity for pupils to challenge themselves physically while making new friends from other schools in KK.

Emma and Ida
This is the last week Emma and Ida, our Swedish visitors, will be spending at the school. Next week they will be taking a well-deserved holiday. We thank them for all their help around school and hope that they have found the experience useful and enjoyable. Emma and Ida will attend both the Primary and Secondary assemblies next week to say goodbye.

Staff Training
On Tuesday, the teachers had an in-service training day. They looked at recent developments in teaching and learning focusing on teaching strategies and student skills. This very useful training that challenged the teachers to become more imaginative and effective was organized and led by Ms Gregory.  Our thanks go to her. I’m sure that all of our students will be reaping the benefits soon as their teachers put into practice what they have learnt.
Danum Valley – Marc Hughes Reports
Every field trip is lots of fun.  At first I didn’t want to go but I am glad I went to Danum Valley.  I was a bit disappointed that I didn’t see the clouded leopard or Sumatran rhino! But, hey, you can’t have it all!  The trip was very exciting and it made me look forward to see the start of the new day.  Sadly our trip of fun and exciting activities ended too fast.  But we did bring back some memories, luckily some of these memories have been caught on video which includes some footage worthy of the best comedy shows, and pictures that will remind everyone of this beautiful encounter with nature. Of course on the video are the outstanding presentations which took form and were presented to a high standard over the course of only three days.

This trip wouldn’t have been so fantastic if it wasn’t for the contributions of the following people: Mrs Lamb, Mrs Marsh, Mrs Thomsen, Mrs Hamilton, Mr Dickinson and Ms Stansfield.  The Sabah Nature Club’s Mr Omar and Danum Valley’s Prof Mike were a great source of information and made sure we learnt a lot about the forest.  I would like to say a big thank you to the great people above on behalf of all the students who went on the trip.
