Dear Parents Congratulations
- GCSE Results
On January 30, the exam results for our Year 11 who have just left the
school were published by Cambridge University. Congratulations are in
order. The students took their exams in June and November of last year.
37% of the grades were A or A*, with 71% of the passes at grade C or
above. These are results to be proud of! Many congratulations to our
former students and Marc Hughes who is still with us. Hari
Raya Haji Holiday Next Wednesday, 12th February, the school will be closed for the Hari Raya Haji holiday. Visitors From
Sweden For the next month
or so, two trainee teachers from Vatternskolan College in Sweden will be
at the school. Emma Cronemark and Ida Lonn are here on teaching practice,
looking at education in an international school. They have a special
interest in Primary education and will be spending most of their time in
the ELC to Year 3 area of the school.
In addition, they are very keen sportswomen and have volunteered to
help with P.E. and swimming lessons. I am sure all of us at KIS, pupils,
parents and teachers, will find their visit both useful and enjoyable. It
will add a truly international flavour as we all learn more about Sweden.
Their visit follows that of Fredrick and Michael last year who hailed from
the same college. Hopefully such visits will become an annual event. Danum Valley
Field Trip The Danum Valley
field trip takes place next Thursday, February 13. The party will return
on Monday, February 17. All the students who are going are eagerly looking
forward to the trip and buying their leech socks (RM10 available from Ms
Stansfield) in preparation. This field trip promises to provide an
excellent environmental education opportunity. We would ask that parents
make payment for the trip to the school office if they have not already
done so. The party will meet
at the airport at 8:30 a.m., February 13 and depart on MH2086 at 9:40.
They will arrive back in KK at 2:30 p.m., February 17, on MH2089. Please
pick your children up promptly. If any parent
urgently needs to contact their children whilst they are at Danum Valley,
please ring 013 867 1799 (KIS handphone) or 019 811 5553 (Mrs Hamilton’s
Handphone). It is vital that these numbers are used only for genuine emergencies. It will be school as usual for the students who are not going on the trip. |
Thank You The Karaoke Club would
like to thank Jimmijo Ng for all of his technical help in setting up the sound
system.
Recently an expensive
camera disappeared from school. This is a reminder to us all that we need to
be more careful with our belongings. We would remind all students that they
should not bring valuable items to school.
If this is unavoidable then the valuables should be locked away
securely or given to a teacher for safe-keeping. Likas Zone Sports A number of our Primary
children will get the chance to compete against children from other schools in
the Likas zone athletics meeting. This will be held over two days, February
18/19, at the Lok Yuk School. More details will be available closer to the
event. The Expat Magazine The Expat Magazine is a
monthly general interest publication that is written and produced for
expatriates in Malaysia. The
magazine features the arts, politics and holiday destinations in Malaysia.
Best of all it is free! To receive this magazine simply fill out the attached
form and fax it to the number given. Malaysians with children at KIS are also
eligible for this free subscription offer. Year 11 Reports and
Parent Teacher Conferences Today reports for our
Year 11 students go home. These are their last reports of the year from the
school. The next set of “reports” they receive will be from Cambridge and
London Universities – their GCSE results! To give parents a
chance to discuss these reports and the forthcoming GCSE’s, there will be a
parent teacher evening on Monday, February 10, from 4:00 to 6:00. This evening
is only for parents whose children will be sitting their GCSE’s this
May/June. For parents with students in Years 6 to 10 the parent teacher
conferences will be held at the end of term as usual. |
