Dear Parents

IGCSE Results

The school has just received results from the IGCSE examinations that last year’s Year 11 students sat in November 2001. Once again the results have been excellent. The cumulative pass rate for our school in the June and November is outstanding:

6% of exam results were scored A*
41% of exam results were scored A or above
69% of exam results were scored B or above
97% of exam results were scored C or above

National Curriculum Test Trainer

Next term in May all students from Year 2 to 9 will be sitting National Curriculum Tests. As this is a new initiative, the staff has been receiving training in this assessment system over the last two days by Ms Cornelius, a staff trainer from St Christopher’s International School in Penang.

WWF Malaysia Fundraising Effort

WWF Malaysia has written to the school advising us that the fundraising activities organised by our school last November raised RM1,000. They expressed their gratitude for this effort. Given that we live in an environment that has such a diverse range of flora and fauna, we constantly need to be aware of the need to protect it from damage. Our efforts to assist WWF are part of the on-going environmental education programme of the school.

Newspaper Collection for the Bird Sanctuary

Our school Sabah Nature Club has begun to collect old newspapers to raise funds for the bird sanctuary at Likas. Accordingly all families are requested to send into school old newspapers and magazines as they accumulate at home. These will be collected each week by a local paper recycle company, and so families can send in their papers on an on-going basis.

Chinese New Year Dinner: 22 February

The sale of tables for the school Chinese New Year Dinner is going very well. Ten tables have been fully sold so far with just five tables left. Parents are encouraged to purchase their tickets early for this as the number of tables has been strictly limited to just 15.

Chinese New Year Holiday Break

A reminder that the school will be closed for the Chinese New Year from 9th – 13th February.

Donation: Goal Posts

A set of goal-post have been donated by the Walter Group Sdn Bhd, courtesy of Mr Peter Hughes. On behalf of the school I would like to thank them for their generosity. We are hopeful that students will be able to use the field, and thus try out the new goal posts during PE lessons after the Chinese New Year break.

Donation: Two Flood Lights

Two sets of flood-lights have just been donated to the school by Mr Wong Kim Fah. These will be used to light up the tar seal area, particularly for evening BBQ events as well as to increase security in the school. I would like to thank Mr Wong for this generous donation.

Birthday Parties in Class

Whilst we welcome the fact that children like to bring a cake and food into school to celebrate birthday parties, we request that parents remain during break times to distribute the food and oversee the party. Teachers often have playground duties or meetings to attend and cannot always be present to manage these parties at break times. Similarly, we would request that if a cake is brought to school, then also please supply enough plates and forks for all the children in the class.

FOBISSEA Swimming Club

The FOBISSEA Swimming Club is held at Sutera Harbour Resort from 3.00pm to 4.00pm on Thursdays.

FOBISSEA Soccer/Athletics Club

The children will be rotated around soccer and athletics training activities at the Monday club which will be held in school each week.

Tuesday Soccer Club

This is not a FOBISSEA Club and is open all students regardless of whether they will be involved in the FOBISSEA Games or not. This club meets at Likas Stadium fields from 3.00pm to 5.00pm.
