| welcome to Kirsty's local community web pages |
| Updated: 22:30 31/07/2002 |
A timebank is being launched in Barnsbury to facilitate a number of volunteering projects & to encourage the development of social capital within the area. The projects include:
Recycling
Local residents can bring their kitchen waste for composting at freightliners
farm. With a timebank they will be able to earn time credits which they can
use to obtain something of value (a product or service) to them.
If you have a skill & you are happy to volunteer to help others you can register on the timebank database. When another member of the timebank requires your skills they will be able to contact you & you can earn credits for helping them.
Similar schemes already exists in other parts of London & across the UK: for instance, Rushey Green (Catford), Gloucestershire Fairshares, and Peckham Hourbank.
If you are interested in partcipating please e-mail kirsty or call 020 7 700 0486.
The following table provides an example of tasks that participants could request (buy) or provide (sell) using timebank credits.

This a project to record & photograph trees throughout the borough; effectively a large-scale inventry of Islington's natural capital. Already several hundred photographs have been taken of trees, mainly on streets within Barnsbury. The aim is to produce a clickable image map which will allow users to view trees by location. Inventree will be available on the web & on compact disk & eventually more detailed information trees (for instance their type, height, and state of health); and there will be a facility for people to report trees which have been damaged or chopped down.
