We bought our Scarlet Pimpernel movie from Amazon. It appears to be of slightly inferior quality ;-), as after 130 viewings the picture is fuzzy and the sound has begun to waver. Does anyone know where we can get a video store quality version? Update: We got a new VCR and the movie is as good as new. We've watched it another 6 times in the past two days.
A different actor gets into the coffin than the actor who plays the Count in the beginning of the movie. The Count's coffin pops open when Sir Percy drives through the gate. The Count emerges from the Countesses coffin. When Sir Percy takes off his disguise, he only removes one eyebrow--what happened to the other one? The message from St. Cyr that the Baron de Batz dropped at Marguerite's soiree is halfway burned, yet the sentence it contains is unbroken. Sir Percy's coat gets caught on the railing as he says,"We leave for Paris at once," after being informed that the Count de Tournay is imprisoned. As Chauvelin declares,"You've gone soft!" to Marguerite in her dressing room, the camera jumps. What happens with the candle that the Baron de Batz knocks over when the soldiers come to arrest St. Cyr? The sound jumps when Chauvelin informs Lady Blakeney that,"In truth, I came to enlist your aid." At Lord Grenville's ball, Marguerite reads the note from the Scarlet Pimpernel sideways. What ever happened with that nasty wound that Percy got when escaping with the Dauphin? Sir Percy can be seen behind Chauvelin's head when he comes down the stairs after the "execution" in Mont St. Pierre. Chauvelin looks in the wrong direction when Sir Percy requests,"Allow me to introduce your soldiers." Camera wires are in the way in two of the Mont St. Pierre scenes. Sir Percy and Lady Blakeney are wearing the wrong clothes in the final scene--where did they come from? |
