The year is 1792. The French Revolution is underway, taking lives by the dozens every day. One man, known only as the Scarlet Pimpernel, is spiriting aristocrats and other "enemies of the Republic" out from beneath the noses of the Committee of Public Safety and taking them safely to England with the assitance of his League. He is a legend in both countries: in England, a hero; in France, a devil. The Committee has sent out their agent, Armand Chauvelin, to track this elusive personage and stop the League's activity. He enlists the unwilling help of Lady Marguerite Blakeney in this mission by threatening her with one of his famous "either-or"s ~ either help him to uncover the identity of the Scarlet Pimpernel or her brother, lately discovered to be part of the League, will be arrested and executed. What is "the cleverest woman in Europe" to do? |
