Letter to the Arizona Daily Wildcat -

Anthony Nelson and others seem to be under the dilusion that women are
solely responsible for pregnancy, as if we will them. I know of no woman
who said, "Gee, I want to get pregnant" and lo and behold, a baby grew in
her womb through magic. Anyone who thinks this is possible obviously does
not live in reality. A woman is not responsible for getting pregnant, not
entirely. Think about it: what is the most common form of contraceptive?
The condom. Who is supposed to wear that condom? The man. Men can get
condoms quite easily, thanks. But women have a tough time getting on the
pill or anything else. For one, we have to be virginal. If we go to the
doctor and ask for the pill, a fitted diaphram, or depo, we have to admit
that we are not living up to the standard of the innocent girl. Is it OUR
responsibility to put a condom on YOUR penis the second before rape (oh,
excuse me, intercourse) happens? Ah, yes. We have full responsibility
over YOUR body but not ours. Women somehow belong to men. But, if we get
pregnant, it is solely our fault. How many of the 70% of men who are
anti-choice have raped a woman, and/or left her when she got pregnant,
and/or even (and this is nice and ironic) paid for her to get an abortion
herself, so long as no one else knew about it? Tell me this: why is it a
woman's fault if it takes two to do the deed?
