| -The Corrections: I read this because Oprah picked it out and then recoiled from the honesty of the author in person. Pertinent and funny but reminiscent of something, not sure what. -The future of life, edward O wilson 'sciencey'. I really liked this read, it was totally digestable and gave me a lot of insight into parts of environmental theory that the general rhetoric had left out. For my thesis work this year, i made brass instruments. The research for this work began more than a year ago and ive come across lots and lots of sound related reading specific to my own interests. These are the BEST of them.: -Aural Cultures edited by Jim Drobnick Im all into this book... if i were going to write about sound/culture/ music this would be the book id put together. comes with a free c.d. and lots of cool visual/audio matchmaking, like doesnt van goghs work remind you of wagnerian music... really good, read this if you are interested in the history of sound and want to leave the cagean stuff behind. |
