America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response
Cub Scout Pack
First Pack Meeting of the Year
Pack 550's first pack meeting of the year is scheduled for Wednesday, September 13th at 6:30 in the Peter Kirk Elementary Gym. This is our fall recruitment meeting so have your sons tell their friends. Your son may be eligible for a recruitment badge if one of their friends join. Since this meeting is so busy, we won't be giving out any awards that were earned over the summer. That gives you time to update your son's Scouttrack record so any awards can be purchased for the October meeting. If they attended pack activities, I have already entered those in. Starting in October, all other pack meetings will be held on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 at the Kirkland Congregational Church. If you have any questions, please let me know. Andrea Gerth Mom and Me Camp This is just a reminder for those interested in going to Mom and Me Camp. The pack has picked the September 16-17 weekend to attend. You can sign up at www.seattlebsa.org under Cub Scouting Camping. Or, you can send in the form from the flyer. Mom and me is open to those boys who are going into 2nd grade (Wolves) through Webelos. If you sign up, please let me know so we can hopefully arrange carpools. Thanks. Andrea Gerth
Cubmaster:
4th of July Parade
Here are the details for the July 4th parade. Sorry, but this is a long email with a lot of details. For the new scouts, if you don't have your uniform shirt yet, don't worry, you can wear the Pack 550 t-shirt that you got when you signed up. All the other scouts should wear their uniform shirts. Please review the link to make sure that everything is wear it is supposed to be. http://www.geocities.com/kirkpack550/Uniform.htm We are group Number 10. We are the first group after the verterans and the Kirkland Rotary. Because of this early placement, it will probably be very difficult for your child to do both the children's parade and the grand parade. The pack has purchased 1500 little American flags to hand out during the parade. Please remind your son of how to respect these flags, even though they are small. They shouldn't be thrown, used as swords, etc. Staging will take place on Market Street, Waverly Way and 5th Avenue West. You may enter the staging area from either 7th or Market or Waverly Way. There will be staging volunteers in orange or green vests at key points with radios to help you. The parade organizers have said that we need to be in our spot at 10:30. I know that it would be difficult for the kids to hang out for and hour and a half. The kids should be there by 11:30. I will need an adult volunteer to check in for us at 10:30. Street Closures …some happen at 9:30 AM and the rest at 10:30 AM. Use the Staging Volunteers to assist you to find your location. The children's parade will start at 11:30 AM at Market and Central. The parade start is at Market and Central. This means that they have purposefully set things up for viewing to begin there. Further up the hill on Market is simply staging and you need not perform on the Market hill at all. After the kids go, the vets will move up to Lake and Central prior to the flyover and many of the rest of you will move too. Some will follow the vets and some will move onto Market into the northbound lane. These moves are in preparation for parade start. So you will move …and then stop. The flyovers will occur at approximately 12:00 Noon. When the flyovers are complete the national anthem will be sung by Dennis Newell. Then the color guard will perform and the parade will start. Perhaps the most important note of all is that you need to stay near the group ahead of you. Last year we didn’t do this very well and there were huge gaps. Those gaps equaled boring dead air for hundreds of the parade goers who are the folks we are here to enthrall and delight. Please keep up the pace and if you get a little behind because of your routine …make every effort to catch up quickly!! You must not stop in Marina Park or really anywhere on the route. The parade ends when you get back up to Waverly and well into the neighborhood. Please let me know if your son will be marching in the parade and/or you can volunteer to show up to the spot at 10:30. Also, if you have any questions, please let me know. Thanks. Andrea Gerth
