A Twist in Time

PART 5

He had to tell Lee how he felt. Ben knew that fact suddenly more clearly than he'd ever known anything. The time for dithering was past.

Nervously he turned the handle of his door and stepped out into the hallway.

Lee was already there, walking away from Ben. The guitarist pondered. Where was Lee going at this time of evening? "Lee, wait up," Ben called as the bassist stepped into the lift. The dark haired man turned and almost seemed to look straight at Ben, but as the elevator door slid closed, it was apparent that the younger man had stared straight through him.

Now Ben was intrigued. Why had Lee been so preoccupied that he hadn't even seen his best friend whilst looking straight at him? Something was wrong and Ben knew he had to find out exactly what. Racing along the corridor, Ben swung open the door to the stairwell and began bounding down them three at a time.

It was a real miracle that he didn't fall down and break his neck. It wouldn't have been a surprise, he was both drunk and entwined in his thoughts. The fact that he made it to the bottom of the stairs safely could only have meant one thing, God had a great sence of humour.

He stopped to open the door to the main hall, his mind suddenly filled with doubt. What the hell was he doing? Maybe Lee's departure was some kind of a sign that he should go back to his room and never even try to tell Lee. Maybe the time wasn't right just yet. Maybe he should think first before he destroyed his life, friendship and possibly even his career. Or maybe he should just stop 'maybeing' and do what he'd wanted to do from months. Deciding that the last option was the best, or maybe the simplest, he entered the main hall, his eyes automatically searching for Lee.

He almost missed his friend slipping out of the entrance and into the street, just catching a flash of dark hair as it passed through the revolving door. Ben followed, wrapping his arms around himself as the chill of the late night bit through the warmth the alcohol produced. He turned left and right, searching Lee out once more and saw the bassist stepping out into the road at the end of the street.

Ben almost shouted once more, perhaps this time the other man would hear him, but his curiosity got the better of him. He wanted to know where Lee was slipping off to at such an hour. Quickly he fell into step about twenty yards behind.

For the first time Ben got the chance to take in Lee's attire and he was more than a little surprised. Tight leather pants, to rival anything worn on stage covered the nicely toned rear and thighs. The top Lee wore was tight and short, something Ben couldn't even imagine Lee owning, let alone wearing out in public.

They turned into another street, which one Ben had no idea. If he lost Lee now, he'd have no idea how to get back to the hotel, but then he had no intention of letting Lee give him the slip.

Finally Lee moved towards a dark smokey doorway. Ben watched as the bassist exchanged words with a huge goon of a doorman before slipping into the seedy looking club. Ben raised his eyes to the tacky neon light flashing above the club and read the name... 'Menagerie'. Ben raised a quizzical eyebrow. *Menagerie*? Was it some kind of a pet shop? He doubted that, somehow he had really big problem trying to imagine a bunch of brown puppies in a place like that. Snakes would be more like it, or perhaps the odd bear or two. He shivered despite himself, he really didn't like this place. He knew he should try to get in but even if his brain was saying 'go' his feet weren't listening.

//You should go away// he heard a strange, warning voice in his skull and he almost did as it wanted. He didn't think he should go, he *knew* it. Too many things were making his skin crawl. That name that was too sleazy to be real, Lee's strange outfit, the ungodly hour. He'd never normally go near a dive like this, but then the situation was anything but normal. With a heart beating so loudly he was sure that guy in a door could hear it, he took few semi-confident steps forward. What he saw when he finally took a better look at the bodyguard only heightened his suspicions. The guy was really big, at least 2 meters high with shoulders so wide he could have offered relief to Atlas, but what almost made Ben stop was his outfit. If he thought Lee was dressed strange, what the goon was wearing was something else, leather, chains and rings in every possible place. That wasn't a person you wanted to meet on a bright day in a crowded street, let alone in the middle of the night in a dark alley.

Ben moved closer to the human pin cushion at the door and nodded, trying to appear casual even as his heart raced.

"You know what this club is boy?" The imposing figure asked, his voice almost as powerful as his physique. "Don't want you crying to your Mummy if you see something you don't like inside."

Ben felt the color run to his cheeks. It had been a long time since anyone had called him boy, but somehow, from this behemoth it seemed almost appropriate.

"Just the kind of private little place I'm looking for." Ben shot back, trying hard to still the tremble in his voice. The goon chuckled, his whole body rumbling like an earthquake.

"I don't think so! You run along now."

That wasn't what Ben wanted to hear. Whilst this was the last place on earth he would have chosen under normal circumstances, he needed to find Lee and learn what this place held for his friend. Reaching into his back pocket he pulled out a thick wallet.

"I'm sure you could let me in if I introduced you to some of my friends?" Deliberately Ben began pulling notes from his wallet.

Again the goon chuckled. "Nice try son, but I get paid pretty well to ensure we get the right sort of clientele in this club. Now you run along home and make it up with your boyfriend."

Ben felt his heart sink. The goon just wasn't buying it. He'd have to go back to the hotel and spend the rest of his days wondering what Lee was up to. Sadly he turned away.

"Hey wait!" The goon placed a large hand on Ben's shoulder and for a moment Ben was scared. Had he broken some unspoken rule? Was the goon about to ensure his silence? "I know you. You're with that band aren't you? The one that played at the arena tonight?"

Now Ben was really frightened. What if this got out? 'Savage Garden Guitarist in Sleazy Club shocker'? He looked up into the menacing face of the ringed man. "And if I was?"

"Well then I guess you'd be pretty discreet about the goings on in this club wouldn't you? It would be quite easy for us to counteract any allegations you made with ones of our own and I guess it'd be you with the most to loose."

"So does that mean I get in?" Ben asked, new hope washing through him. The gorilla stepped aside.

"I guess that's your golden ticket."

Ben nodded his 'thanks' nervously and , before that guy could change his mind, took a one big step inside. His relief from being let in disappeared almost as quickly as it had arrived as he finally found himself inside the 'club'. Now he knew why he had such a bad feeling about this.

The club was dark, only the barest of lighting filtering through in scattered patches. A low rhythmic pulse, supposedly identifiable as music throbbed out through a thick cloud of smoke. A mass of bodies moved together in the center of the room, swaying in time to the hypnotic beat and as Ben's eyes began to adjust to the dim lighting of the room, he began to distinguish the mass into various forms.

Men, all of them, many in various degrees of undress. Ben's eyes followed a young man dressed in leather shorts and a collar, and little else as he was led across the dance floor on a leash.

His eyes scanned over the various darkened nooks and crannies of the room, his stomach churning as just about every act known to man seemed to be occurring under his very nose. What the hell was Lee doing here? Where the hell was he?

Ice cold tendrils of fear washed down his spine as he saw a naked man lashed to a post over in the far corner, a huge bear of a guy hitting him with a leather belt as a crowd of onlookers cheered them on. Why was Lee here?

What was really bothering Ben, was the thought that Lee might be in that crowd, cheering that man on, or maybe he was already entertaining himself somewhere else in the room. He made himself a promise, that if he didn't find Lee in a minute, he would go back to his hotel and never even think about this night's events. He was just about to turn around to try to search for Lee in the other part of the club when one sight caught his attention. Some guy, bigger even than a goon that let him in was mercilessly fucking some poor guys mouth with his huge cock, nearly choking his victim. Ben cringed. He was sure that they were both loving it, if they weren't they wouldn't be here in the first place but he had had enough. He always considered himself pretty open-minded but this was just too much for him to handle. He was ready to run away when the big guy suddenly grabbed his 'pet's' hair and roughly pulled his face away from his groin. The huge man grinned down at the younger man, who looked up frightened and confused. That was also a moment he saw the other man's face for the first time. Ben nearly passed out. That 'poor boy' had the prettiest brown eyes he had ever seen, the sweetest lips he could imagine kissing, the face of his one true love- Lee.

Ben felt as if he was nailed to the floor. He wanted to run from the room but his legs had ceased working. He wanted to turn his face but he held still, almost hypnotized by the alarming sight before him. Bile rose in his throat as he watched the big man surge forward, banging that huge ugly flesh against the beautiful skin of his loves face.

As if Lee somehow sensed Ben's presence he lifted his head and their eyes met. For a second bassist looked startled, but then the other man was pushing his cock against Lee's moist lips and those beautiful brown eyes that Ben loved so much, simply slid shut, blocking out the guitarist as his mouth closed once more around the swollen pink flesh.

Suddenly Ben could move once more and he found himself almost gliding towards Lee, his legs somehow disconnected from his slightly confused brain.

He grabbed the bassist firmly around the forearm, dragging him off the monster's cock and onto his feet in one smooth motion.

"Hey, what the fuck are you doing?" The huge man protested, shoving Ben so fiercely the musician nearly tumbled backwards, but he steadied himself and looked directly into the big man's face.

"He's mine!" He challenged, his voice low and threatening. The man looked at Lee, his head bowed submissively and considered his options. That had been one hell of a blow job, but there were fifty others in the room ready to take his place, many of them a lot prettier and a lot younger.

"Take him."

Ben dragged Lee across the room towards the exit, not registering the way the younger man struggled in his arms. The big goon at the door smiled as they passed. "Guess you've found something you like Mr. Bigtime? You come and visit us soon, perhaps we can dance."

Ben ignored the man but his fingers involuntarily dug deeper into Lee's delicate flesh. He needed to get away from those people and have a serious talk with 'the love of his life'. He dragged Lee for few minutes, wandering down the dirty, dark alleys, not really caring where he was going as long as it was somewhere private. It didn't take long to find such a place, the whole neighborhood was deserted. Ben stopped so violently that it made Lee stumble forward. If not for Ben's hand still holding on his arm, he would surely fallen down.

"What the fuck was that?!" Ben didn't even wait for Lee to answer before roughly pushing him against the nearest wall "What the hell were you thinking?! Were you thinking at all, Lee?!"

Lee shivered, to scared to speak. He knew that Ben could be dangerous when angry and he really didn't want to find out how far a furious Ben would go.

"Answer me, Lee, what were you thinking?" He demanded, irritated at Lee's passiveness "Fine! Fucking great!" He shouted "Be quiet if you want, but I'm going to speak, if I may of course." The sarcasm was thick in his voice. Lee still couldn't speak, he stood fixed to the spot, clinging to the cold brick wall for dear life.

The guitarist growled, trying to fight the urge to slam his fist against the hard surface. He knew that if he wanted to find out anything he had to calm down at least a little.

"Make me understand Lee," he almost whispered, pain washing through his body, "because from where I'm standing you look like some kind of-some kind of pervert. Have you done this before? Do you make a habit of sucking the cocks of guys you don't even know? Is that all you do? Do you let them fuck you? Make me understand Lee. Do they pay you? Is that what you are, some kind of cocksucking whore?"

Lee lowered his eyes, obviously ashamed by Ben's harsh words but the older man wasn't going to be swayed.

"No you don't. It's to late to play coy with me now. I saw you on your knees remember, that fucking monster cock bruising your throat. It's too late to try the innocent act."

"You wouldn't understand," Lee cried, their eyes meeting once again. Brown eyes lowered quickly, not able to look upon the hate and scorn on Ben's face.

"You're damn right I wouldn't understand. How the hell could I? You're sick Lee, fucking warped and I don't think you could say a single thing that would make me understand this silly fuckin' game you're playing."

Lee didn't try to defend himself in any way, he knew that Ben was absolutely right. He was sick, twisted, and stupid to believe that no one would ever find out about his visits to those clubs. He'd thought that he could go on like that forever, but then good things just didn't happened to Lee Novak. "I'm so sorry..." he managed to squeak after the longest seconds of his life "I didn't mean to..."

"You didn't *mean* to? Can you hear yourself!? Do you know what you are talking about? That guy recognized me! He could have recognized you! Do you know what could happened if someone sold that story to the press? If Darren found out about that he would kick you out without a second thought!"

At the mention of Darren's name Lee suddenly came to life. He looked at Ben with wide, scared eyes, panicked beyond words. That was the last thing he needed, Darren finding out what a low life creature he was. "No, no, don't tell him." he pleaded, shaking his head violently "You can't! I... I'll..." he stopped his rambling considering his options for few seconds before lowering his gaze once again. He caught his lower lip between his teeth and forced himself to look as vulnerable as he felt. He knew that people loved those submissive, virgin-like acts and he hoped Ben wasn't any different. "I'll do whatever you want, Benny." he suggested in a low, almost husky voice "Anything..."

Ben looked at that change in Lee's behavior with disbelief. The little hope that remained deep within him, telling him that there had to be a logical explanation for all this, died on hearing his friends last sentence.

"...anything...?" he repeated slowly, not quite believing his ears, like he was trying to remember some foreign word that he had heard for the first time in his life.

"And what if... what if I tell you that I want to hurt you Lee?" he asked silently, feeling his whole body shaking "What if from now I want to have you every night on your knees, begging for your punishment like a dog?"

If he'd expected to see a flicker of uncertainty in Lee's features he had been disappointed. "Anything is anything Benny" he nodded in acknowledgement and Ben could have sworn he saw a relief washing over his features. "You name it, I'll do it."

Ben scowled, disgusted how easily Lee seemed to accept the proposition Who was the man he though he loved? A slightly cynic bassist that he once called his best friend? A lost child that begged him not to tell anyone? Or maybe a whore that wasn't ashamed to suck a guy in a crowded club and now was standing before him, offering his body like a cheap hooker? How many more faces did this man have and more importantly, which ones were real?

"You are not only a whore but a slut as well, Novak." he spat, his left hand reaching to his back pocket "And to think there was a time..." he shook his head, his brain unable to reconcile with the fact that he had believed he was in love with the man before him. "Don't worry, your precious little secret is safe with me."

Ben opened his wallet with a one quick motion and pulling out all the bills, and threw them at Lee in fury.

"Here. I hope that will cover the loss of earnings I caused you tonight." he finished coldly then turned and walked away, not sparing the sight behind him another glance.
